With the winter olympics over, the next great sporting competition is the World Cup. I began to wonder with the amount of sporting competitions in the world which one is your favourite?

My personal favourite sporting event is the All-Ireland Hurling Championship. Hurling is a brilliant sport but not that well known.

My favourite (well known sport) is Formula 1 racing. I hope Jordan do well this year

My personal favorite is American College Football. I voted for the Olympics becasue I enjoy them quite a bit too. After that is World Cup Football.

The AFL of course.

For me it's the World Cup of course. Football is THE sport and the World Cup is THE tournament in that sport :goodjob:

I also like the Olympics and Formula One though, also some other stuff with less global magnitude.

Nothing can beat the magic of the F.A. cup! The passion which it invokes, especially amongst the non-league teams (Bath City for me:)) and the whole history of the competition, for me anyways, make it the greatest sporting competition in the world.

Thank you for including a vote for "I hate sports". Most polls tend to leave out these "none of the above" categories.

 I was going to bust this one out in the 'Which is your fav AFL team' thread. First I was going to say, "I don't see the Jets".....then I had decided on some CIO material......then just figured that I wouldn't mess up their AFL thread with my crappy little jokes.

And now you've beaten me to it on this one!!! ;)

Anyway, its gotta be the World Series for me personally. World wide, I guess it has to be the World Cup, which even gets me, an unabashed soccer basher, to watch. The excitement of the crowds is infectious.

And then, every once in a while, somebody scores, which is kinda cool. :D

I was also tempted to mention that they wrote the wrong sport after World Cup.....football's big game is the Super Bowl. But that tends to get them riled up, as well. So I won't say it and just let it go.

Tough because,

American Football is my favorite sport, so the Super Bowl should be my answer...but sometimes the Super Bowl isn't all that great (I've witnessed some 55-10 laughers in my day)...I like the passion around the World Cup, but I find Soccer terminally boring (I just can't take seriously a game that you don't know when it's going to end...I like the hubbub in most sports when the clock winds down)...World Series, iffy...I'd probably choose the Wizard's Cup if my Saints hadn't gotten trounced by the Lions...

I think I'll sit this one out :)

1. Well, now you've made my day. :D

2. I've done a little 'journalism' on your quote about baseball. Now it fits my opinion of the sport a little closer. ;)

3. I just call it all football unless I am talking to an American (of the sub species Unitedstatian  ). That way I keep eveyone happy, which as many of you know, is my goal in life  . I do try to qualify it from time to time though, so as to avoid confusion. I also figure that by not using the word Soccer to Europeans, I have done my honest best not to be an arrogant American ;) . You can't say I don't try. :p

Does competition stand for sports which I think to be the best to play,
or best to watch?

Stanley Cup (NHL) and Turner Cup (IHL) are my favorites. I just love Ice Hockey so damn much!!!

Coupe du Monde of course, because we won it at home 3-0 GG_OWNED brazil :D :D :D

One thing I dont understand after 2 years spent in the US is US football :crazyeyes . It looks much like rugby and go figure why americans named it "football" for a game where a bunch of wussies need a break every 10 sec to breath after running a few meters ball in hand.

Handjackball would be a better name :)

all that = imo of course ;)

Blasphemy! Blasphemy! I demand a burnining at the stake or at least :splat: . Wilful ignorance or attempted humour is no defence! :nono: ;)

For the benefit of heathens everywhere AFL stands for Australian Football League and bears no similarity to pretenders with the same acronym.

Aussie Rules is a religion and we worship at the MCG! :aargh:

I agree, people here are very nutty about football, but the name makes no sense. The foot and the ball rarely merge, and when they do it isn't that significant.

My favorite sport is basketball because it is simple, place heavy emphasis on a variety of athletic ability, and plays pretty quickly (except in the last minute of close games  ). I think soccer falls in the same general catagory (Although basketball requires much more diverse skill, and height :D ), of being a sport that is athletes, balls, and little else!

Hah Hah, this is the Internet and you can't hit me over the head with a fish, no matter how much you may want to. Too bad for you, Mr. Australian Football League. :p [dance]
