Which unique unit do you think is the best? I like the predatorian because it dominates early warfare.

Definitely the Praetorian but the Carrack is quite useful because come Optics you can settle and invade without hindrance rather than having to wait until Astronomy. If you are playing Joaoaoaoaoaoao (pronounced "Joe"!) you are probably by definition playing a water map, so that's the handiest unit out there.

Other good ones include the Oromo Warrior and Janissary at Gunpowder and the Keshik which is uber-powerful on a Highlands map where war can be painfully slow. The least situational is probably the Praet but selecting your map and civ carefully can get mileage out of a lot of decent UUs.

The worst I think is the Navy Seal (for me, anyway). Although there's been a huge discussion on the Khmer elephant, Seals come far too late in the game for them to be useful. The last time I played as Roosevelt, I had transports loaded and ready for deployment in what was left of Korea, but then a turn before launch I won the game :(. Oops.

i'd have to agree about Seals coming too late, and not even representative of a "unique" american unit. Should have been cavalry - american cavalry/cowboys were the best in the world- they conquered a land area almost as large as the Mongol empire and obliterated the wiley american indians, and the cunning spanish. Greatest unique unit?-the one that is not there.
but- if i had to play a game for my life - think i'd take Keshiks.

India's Fast worker. It is the only unit that never obsoletes. It also has no prerequisites to build.
Kind of a cheap answer I guess, If I had to pick a combat unit, I would say Native Americas Dogmen. Melee killers!

The problem with an American unique unit is that America has a limited history to choose from compared to other countries - unless you want to incorporate American Indian into it. Personally i think America has always dominated with its Airforce technology, so it's unique unit should definately come from that direction.

Cavalry on the other hand, are just cavalry. Yes they were used succesfully in American history, but i do not think the technology was so unique vs all other nations, some nations yes but not all.

Edit: i forgot to mention my favourite UU (vanilla) - Keshik!

the colt peacemaker and the winchester. the technology was so advanced that this was the real american golden age. american
cavalry armed with winchesters and six shooters and backed by gatlin guns would have made the antiquated europeans, the backward tech asians, and the fumbling others fall like old wooden ships to the turreted ironclad of american horror.

My favorite is the HRE landsknekt. I can completely skip CS and build an army of longbows, landsknekts, and trebs. No need for xbows or maces at all.

CKN is pretty unstoppable too.

I don't know if those weapons were so advanced for their time? I looked up wikipedia and got no result for 'winchester' at all and nothing relevant for Gatlin guns.

Winchester Model 1873 or the Winchester Model 1894. Winchester rifles were among the earliest repeating rifles, and as such the Winchester name has become synonymous with lever-action firearms. The gun is colloquially known as "The Gun that Won the West" for its immense popularity at that time, as well as its use in fictional Westerns.

A Gatling gun is a gun with multiple firing pins and breeches connected to multiple rotating barrels. Each barrel fires a single shot as it reaches a certain point in the cycle after which it ejects the spent cartridge, loads a new round, and in the process, somewhat cools down. This configuration allows higher rates of fire without the problem of an overheating single barrel, though accuracy suffers. The gun was designed by the American inventor Dr. Richard J. Gatling in 1861 and patented in 1862.

Thanks for that, however i still do not have any idea how these weapons stacked up against the best weapons in Europe at the time? or for how long they remained superior if that was the case before the Europeans came to posses similar weapons?

1. Fast worker
2. Praetorian
3. Quencha

-------
Worst: Navy Seal
2nd worst: conquistador(bts)
3rd worst: musketeer

Conquistador simple because the Curiasser is awful on it's own and has an incredibly short lifespan.

Musketeer because like the Conquistador it has an incredibly short lifespan and contributes nothing when upgraded (unlike Oromo warrior)

The I.G.Mod.71/84, Germany's first infantry repeating rifle, is a further evolution of Paul Mauser's first successful military rifle, the I.G.Mod.71. German Mauser. Taking advantage of critical lessons learned from the Turks at the battles of Plevna in 1877, (where the Turks, armed in important part with M1866 Winchester repeating rifles soundly defeated the numerically superior Russians )

the Henry and Spencer's were around in 1860. A twenty year gap.

Best UU is either the Panzer or the Navy Seal. Either one can kick the crap out of Praetorians and the Panzer dominates Quecha so badly that no one has even bothered to make a Quecha v Burning Panzer emoticon.

My fav is the Redcoats. They pwn everything else in there time.
