Best Unique Unit

That would make since. I would like to propose Nationhood for as the pre-req. That would stop it from being an early game breaker, but not be so late that it is unusable. One thing; when you say 50 gold, do you mean to upgrade an existing Settler, or it cost :gold: + :hammer:/:food: to build? I don't think making it the only unit that requires :gold: to build would be a good idea.

To upgrade! :p

I understand that completely, but Guilds isn't all that hard, if you can tech that quickly. If you have a Cuirasser-strength Conquistador at Guilds, that's worth teching to, isn't it?

They were only 10 STR like knights in warlords/vanilla, iirc...they just had the melee/defense bonus. They were not 12 STR longbow dominators like they are now! Of course, you could get a 15 STR unit then...

Best UU hands down is East Indiaman and Immortal.

On a water map, the East Indiaman owns the map through the renaissance and the Industrial era. It is so versatile, +2 extra strength than normal galleon, can enter enemy territory without war, has one extra capacity which basically makes it an equal of the transport. It also stands up pretty well to frigates. You can basically escort it with less frigates because it is a transport that can fight. It is a unit that takes a long time to get obsolete. The perfect unit.

Immortal...enough said. It's the best also.

The Camel Archer used to be my favorite UU in vanilla. It used to have a 25% base retreat which made it much more formidable for hit and run war strategy with flank II. I also preferred Saladin when he was philosophical + spiritual.

I stand corrected. I could've sworn they were 12 STR. They were so effective! Of course, I played Noble back then.

I think a better UU for America would be a Militiaman. Maybe minus 1 or two strength, but with first strikes and withdrawal chance. How much of each depends on how much strength gets taken away. Anything but the Navy SEAL. >_<

Militiaman: musketman with 9 strength, 1 first strike, and has -50% unhappiness length for drafting?

How come the American team at Firaxis always makes the worst unique units for the American empire? I never play as the Americans because of the useless navy seals that come too late.
The Cho-ko-nu(China;s, I may have spelt it wong) is still the best. It combines a siege weapon to weaken the defenders and a melee unit to finish them off in one so you don't have to waste hammers on building both.
