Best unit EVER?

I was under the impression that you could not have a unit with both the demonic and vampire trait. However somehow I managed to upgrade a Vampire to an Eidolon and he kept the vampire trait. So what exactly is going on here? Regardless this unit kicks some major ass.

Vampire is not a racial promotions like Demon, so they aren't mutually exclusive. However, demonic units are not alive, so they cannot be given Vampirism through the spell. Upgrading from a living units with vampirism will not remove it though. Likewise, if a vampire casts lichdom it will keep vampirim while becoming undead.

I played as the vampires with the Order religion, and was able to make that angel, Sphener<sp?>, a vampire. He was in a large stack and I had a few units that were over level 6 and used the gift of vampirism spell on the stack and he ended up being a vampire. I also have to say, that my vampire paladins were super bad ass :)

My favorite vampires are the Nilhorn giants: Larry, Moe, and Curly. While they may not be extremely awesome mechanically like vampire tier 4 units, there is something amusing about giants wandering around tossing thousands of citizens into their gaping vampiric maws.

it's kind of hard to get them to level 6 safely though, or at least it would take quite a while.

While not exactly the best unit EVER, fireball wielding golems can actually act as mobile artillery and are especially powerful in large stacks. From my own usage of these (I play on chieftan though), you wouldn't want to be on the business end of those golems when they are laying siege to your city.

Heck, fireball wielding golems (especially iron and maybe higher, haven't tried with the bone golems or other ones) could qualify for a new unit type, a hybrid artillery/melee unit. I could easily see the Luchirup fashoning one arm into a cannon or mount a cannon like thing on the shoulder or even get creative on an iron golem and enchanting that with fireball ability. Same with clockwork golems, except that they probably have alot more room to work with.

very few units (none normal as far as i know) are as strong as vampire lords. Even the avatar of wrath is usually killed in the first turn it spawns on my calabim (devine essence+) nations soil. This is extremely lategame though, and usually games are eighter won or lost by then.

Honestly, the best unit around at the moment is the hawk. Amazing recon abilities, with the most imporant being discovering hidden units (completely canceling out shadows, this for a unit costing 10 hammers!). You also don't have to go down an alternative tech path for them, they're at the exact same point as hunters.

my vote is still the eater of dreams.

anything that can summon 20 pit beasts in a single turn that last a minimum of 3 turns is fearsome.

Vampiric Sphener (that comes with vampiric paladins assuming you use order to change alignment) is pretty awesome.

My favorite though: Balseraph Druids (domination, move3 with mobility, can move onto peaks). Early (compared to other super units) and game ending. The only problem (slow down) is changing align if restricted leaders.

Umm... best unit... Dis :mischief:

I love the freaks. Maybe it's just the gambler in me.

Also I like sending the weak ones off to the arena to prove their worth.

Use Kandros and scouts. Mutate with Loki before the arena, and do not expect to survive 3, so get +4 from civics. Unrestricted, Oh noes!
Spoiler :
Mutation arena fest? Kandros makes Balseraph a tier 1 civ.
I think I want uber-baron.

Kandros makes any civ a tier 1 civ.

Fixed. Kandros is ridiculous. That his default civ can't get mages or archmages is what gimps him with restrictions on, but even then he's really, really strong.

QFT :). Value for cost, it is rediculously high.

DIIIIIIIIIIIIS! :p

(sorry for spamming) :)

Kandros is a DOWNGRADE for:

Amurite
Sheaim
Svalt
Ljos
Lanun
Luch (debatable?)

You know, all of the actual tier 1 civs. And, even some of the tier 2s: Calabim and Kur, off the top of my head.

An easy way to tell if a civ is in the top tier: Would kandros improve it? If not, top tier.

I think Baron can be the best unit (CR3, blitz). Probably ljos gets him quickest. I'll post a screenshot when I get him crazy with werewolf army.

Sheaim are improved by Kandros because seriously, aggressive Pyre Zombies. Come on. The reason the Sheaim are so good now is because they got a praetorian level early UU, and you're saying free combat 1 isn;t an improvement? Also, earlier high tech magic units due to financial.

The elven civs get financial benefits for their ******** forest cottages.

I know you hate early warrior rushes but Luch Kandros would be sick at doing them because of aggressive + dwarven + turn 1 worldspell to crank them out like every turn.

Kuriotate lose sprawling if Cardith is replaced by anybody. That's an improvement, period, not just a Kandros thing.

Lanun and Calabim.... okay, you're right, I've got nothing there. Still, 5 out of 7 ain't bad.

Arcane, raider, philo, summoner... nuff said.

Hawks are pretty close to being the best unit, I agree. A hunter and a hawk for large recon area and unhides all invis, especially the ultra-annoying mistforms that kill all your workers.

Vampire lords are powerful, but there's only 3 of them and they are rather difficult to get.

Best unit for the hammers are still champions though.
