Best Wargame You Have Played

Is T-72 better than Combat Mission? Personally, I would say no. I believe there is a demo available if you want to check it out. While I've got ya, I'd keep an eye on Steel Beasts Pro.... it looks to blow T-72 out of the water. Also keep an eye on Oleg Maddox's "Wartime Command". If it ever gets released, it could challenge Combat Mission for the tactical WWII crown.

Conquer The Island multiplayer missions for Operation Flachpoint (1.96).

i'm still waiting for a game that take into account flanking, pincers and encirclement movement like military genius like Napoleon and Von Manstein was able to accomplish... the object of war is to encircle the opponent in pincher moves to cut them off from their supply roads and their supply depots...once armies are too away from their supply they should began to get lower hit points and never get the heal thing...this way there would be real battle fronts stretch with strong points rather than the stacking of units because they could be encircled and/or their supply roads cut off...plus you've get no bonus for attacking a stack from behind or from their flank (like in Rome Total War) So i'll vote for that game but you cant really do these moves on the big map only once the battle is engaged...

I wish one day to play to Barbarossa : total war

anyone knows a game that take supply routes into account and battle fronts on large scales ?

Hearts of Iron II does all that, with supply issues and bonus' for flanking and encirclement. Takes place throughout the second world war, and includes smaller battle scenarios (such as Barbarossa). And you can shove Manstein in command if you prefer.

Europa Universalis II does a similar thing, but is more about long-term nation building. It includes the Napoleonic wars though.

I like the overall play and battles in Medieval: Total War better than Rome: Total War. So I would have to say:

Strategy:
Medieval: Total War
Command & Conquer: Red Alert's 1 and 2 (with the expansions), the Original C&C, Tiberian Sun, and Tiberian Sun Firestorm.
Civ 3 (even though that is more empire building)

1st Person Shooters:
The Call of Duty series.

Naval Ops: Commander is another wargame that I like, especially how you can design your own ships and send them into battle. My first destroyer I built could take on 2 carriers, 8 battleships, 16 cruisers, 8 submarines and still get out with only moderate damage. When the enemy begins his attacks he is usually in tight formation with his fleet, so you can't really single one out the straggler of the group, because there aren't any.

And I can't really think of anymore.

oh thanks! I'll note all that and try to find them...are they RTS or turn based...please describe more! lol

Edit: I found Hearts of Iron site and there are like only 4 screenshot and nothing since the game is from 2002 I think but it looks like Risk where you dont really play the battle more like a board game. but I saw the supply road...which is nice. It seems the game is not even available on ebgames...lol maybe Ebay. Europa seems even older since the website is off..

There's plenty of games that feature supply (and flanks, morale, encirclements, etc).... but, they're generally only found in grittier simulation oriented titles.

thats what sucks...if you want encirclement and strategy in a FPS everybody is jumping everywhere and running changing gun every 4 seconds...

and good graphics games are not realistic

realistic ones are played on tiles...god...

Not so with OFP's Conquer The Island. Each battle area is a, on average, 100KM2 land mass, surrounded by water. And if people want to change their weapons away from base, they'll have to drive a support vehicle to a convenient & hidden place to some where near the combat (could be near the enemy base, or a choke point to stop the enemy getting more income). Income is gained by capturing & holding towns and victory is achieved by destroying all enemy buildings & the enemy Mobile Head Quarters (MHQ needed to place buildings & produce workers).

Due to the size of the islands and the amount of cover & concealment everywhere, strategy & tactics play a major part. Let's use camping as an example. In almost all FPS, camping is frowned upon & people are kicked & even banned for doing it. But in OFP, if you complain about a camper, you'll probably get laughed at & told that you should either learn OFP or go back to Counter Strike. Campers can be easily flanked (with various degrees of "easy", depending on how good the camper is), but if they seem to foil all flank attempts, you can always send (or lead) a bunch of tanks over to turn them into a sticky puddle of goo.

CTI is a masterpiece, I've never played anything else that gives you half the freedom for tacticle exercises that CTI does. if you have OFP+Resistance, I sugest looking for it, downloading it & having a go (can be played with 1 player, AI are automated). if you don't have OFP+Resistance, I suggest looking for it, although it might be hard finding a copy of Resistance these days.

I tried T-72 but there was numerous issues with graphics so I didn't play it any further.

Steel Panther - Main Battle Tank
Act of War: Direct Action
original C&C
Panzer General 2
People's General
EDIT: Civilization 4 (start with modern age, allways war and Domination) :D

These two last ones are absolutely fabulous war game. I remember how I loved to conquer USA with Germany power in Panzer General 2. Very nice fictive way of victory there and it was only given you played very good game through campaing :)

Korsun Pocket which is a true war game (most people are just listing 1st person shooters).

CTI is a masterpiece,

This just sounded like the best game ever...Camping is realistic..I remember playing call of duty and/or MOHAA where everybody cry when you camp! its like they really think you run everywhere on a battlefield...also all those games had small battlefield, more like 10 blocks so people were rushing and jumping. No game has ever had big big battlefields...this one seems to have it all. I'll try finding this game thats for sure

Operation Flashpoint is the best.

This is the official site http://www.paradoxplaza.com/. The forums are a good place to ask questions about the game, one of the few gaming forums i've seen with exceptionally helpful members who quickly answer questions.

Can't help you with finding the games though. I found Europa by accident, and had to buy Hearts of Iron II on the launch day, only seen it once since. :(

so guys I read there is add-ons on this game..so which operation flashpoint add-ons should I try ?

All of them...May take forever & a week.

But if you're after CTI, http://mfcti.sourceforge.net/MFCTIDownloads.html this is the download page of the the original CTIs, latest ones are at the top.

For everything else Flashpoint, go to http://ofp.info . It's has all the latest OFP news, all the best mods, & the biggest collection of addons, missions & campaigns.

Let me close with a few pics of an addon pack you will probably feel an unbareable urge to play with.

do you mean I can download the game for free ? I have a download limit so i dont wanna dl anything..

No, just the addons, mods, missions, campaigns & other third party stuff.

you'll need to look around for the actual game, it shouldn't cost more than $10-$15. You want to look for Operation Flashpoint GOTY. Do not get the Hero's edition (or Elite, that's for Xbox).

Here's the "buy" page on their official site http://www.bistudio.com/sales.html

If you don't buy stuff online, I suggest you google something like "buy Operation Flashpoint GOTY". To get this game will cost you more effort than money, but it's well worth it.
