BETA TEST: History Rewritten 1.23

Using your directions it did created OOSLog (Alexej - Turn 0).txt in documents. Dont understand why it is not creating one in mp game :(

Here's another version of the two files I got you to replace before. This time if an OOS error occurs and an OOSLog doesn't appear, you can press Ctrl-K to try force it's creation. Do this on both computers. There'll be an in-game message if the key stroke was detected correctly.

A minor issue, but annoying: Building a missionary (Imam), at the start of the turn I get a prompt telling me I cannot build an Imam, yet the hammers have been banked towards it and I am able to select to continue building an Imam. I suppose some counter somewhere thinks I have reached the limit? I have two active, just completed, but I think I should be allowed three (map is standard Pangaea). Save attached; the issue happens upon clicking end turn.

Found and fixed the problem. It affected Inquisitors and Executives too. Thanks for the report!

Hi Xyth,

really enjoying this version. But still on the dissent mechanics... I'm always playing on Emperor or Inmortal difficulty, and I don't see my opponents having to struggle against the dissent at all, even if they are extremely large. I'm posting my saved game, that's on small size map. Filipe (Spanish) is holding 19 cities from long time ago (for sure more than 100 turns) while the others we are around 7 or 8, and Filipe have not faced any rebellion or civil war. Actually I didn't see any rebellion since this beta version.
But yes, I have serious problems to face with the dissent. That's something I like to deal with.
In this saved game, I've checked with WorldBuilder the city info for Spanish cities, and they have no dissent. They aways have a very big surplus of Health and Happiness, even if the cities are size 15.

Investigating. I expect AI civil wars to be relatively rare on Emperor/Immortal, but in your game Spain is definitely out of proportion to what I'd expect.

Awesome. Have already eliminated many possible causes. Could you also post the MPLog.txt (even if there's only one) and the last autosave before the OOS if you still have it?

Xyth
Did any cities increased their culture level during that golden age? Could you possibly post before and after screenshots of the dissent page of the Domestic Advisor?

Sorry dint have the save from that loong age. But yes i think some cities increase they culture level during GA. The capital maybe twice and its probaly in hiss range.

Then if i get it correct: For certain city A, Cultural level of near cities my/opponent have positive/negative effect on dissent in that city. Correct?
Plus religinos and other action/events. Different government in opponent cities have effect to?

How far are you whit that barbarian parties? (Civilization 1-2) Still on wish list?

But something else i have on my mind. Is there possible for that barbarian raid ship and barbarians caravels (some time there is someone who is that unfortunate and meet it when he have dormons max.) That when they are in empire cultural area they cant go to directly to the ocean. They must find a non taken coast first to do it. (Cannot enter ocean from coast in cultural boarders?)

I mean when that ship leave a distant island (Pirate camp) and sail across globe, and they meet the possible target. Then that ship dint go trolling around empire borders. Because without frigates or galleons will be merely impossible to take it down.
I hope i write it correct.

Hi,

very little thing:
my Great Sciencist is not able to discover Theology, and the TechTree .pdf says it may be allowed.

Thanks Xyth

Not quite. There's two components to the dissent reduction from culture: culture level and ethnicity. A city gets -20 dissent for each culture level it's reached after the first. This has no affect on dissent in other cities. Each city also gets -1 dissent for every percentage of culture that is it's own. So an Aztec city that has 100% Aztec culture reduces dissent each turn by 100. An Aztec city that has 62% Aztec culture only reduces dissent each turn by 67. This is the way that culture of nearby cities affects a city's dissent.

Dissent is caused by your choice of civics, empire size, unhappiness, unhealthiness, and non-state religions. Dissent is reduced by culture/ethnicity, happiness, healthiness, state religion, golden ages, and certain buildings. Other than via culture/ethnicity, other civilizations have no affect on dissent in your cities. It's all about what your people think of your government.

Take a look in the Pedia, in the Concepts section. I've written articles there on Dissent and Civil War. They explain how it works in more detail.

Still on the wishlist. Been too busy with everything else to look into it yet.

I cannot restrict the movement of units that way. There was a bug in 1.22 that caused Barbarian Caravels to appear much earlier than they should. Should be fixed in 1.23, so if you do see a Barbarian Caravel it's because the Barbarians have captured one somehow or they have the technology needed to build them.

Hi,

very little thing:
my Great Sciencist is not able to discover Theology, and the TechTree .pdf says it may be allowed.

Great People tech preferences have been reviewed and reassigned for 1.23. I'll post the PDF for the new techtree once 1.23 is properly released.

That OOS is proving very elusive. I've made a few changes that might solve it, but I'm not holding my breath. Please try the attached patch (replaces the same 2 files as previously). I've also made significant updates to the OOSLogger, it will now print out considerably more information about the game state than previously. If the OOS does still happen, please post a saved game and the two OOSLogs. Thanks in advance.

Hopefully you can grab this patch before CivFanatics goes offline for the weekend.

Hi,
Xyth I was in my current game (small size, saga game speed) wondering how long the Golden Age takes. I have in my possession the Mausoleum of Maussollos (it's been conquered), and I'm not running the Idolatry tenet. The Golden Age is triggered and it takes 24 turns.
I have loaded a saved game (from the same game, but some turns ago), but this time running the Idolatry tenet, I trigger a Golden Age and also takes 24 turns. So the Idolatry tenet maybe is not working properly?
I must say both Golden Ages are triggered by GP, and in both saved games is the first Golden Age triggered.

Here you have the saved games, you can trigger the Golden Age yourself.

CFC is back, hurrah!

However, AtomicGamer is now offline for good, so both 1.22 and the 1.23 beta are currently unavailable to download. Because of this I think it's best I just release 1.23. It's pretty much done, the major exception being that damnable OOS error. I've made significant improvements to OOS logging though, so hopefully we'll be able to track it down before too long and get a patch out.

I'm currently in the process of sorting a new host for the download, trying out a number of places. Please bear with me, and I'll post as soon as 1.23 is available.

Patiently waiting :)

Edit : Download on moddb is clickable now :D though mod still awaits authorisation... so much for my patience ;)
