Beta?

I remember hearing that the beta would be in August or something, but will it be an extremely closed beta where only really cool people get it or is there a glimmer of hope for me?

I don't think I can wait til November for a taste...

Betas I believe are already choosen, a combination of people, presumably alot of Beta testers from Civ3

I have no clue what Firaxis will be doing for their Civ4 beta. For Civ3's Conquests expansion, there was a period where you could send in applications for the beta; all told they got about 10,000 applications for Conquests and selected about 250 people. Again, I don't know what's going to happen for Civ4, but my guess is that it will probably be a pretty select group (if it turns out to be by application, please pick me, Firaxis! )

That's what I've heard as well. But I've also heard its been going on for several months.

Sullla, you are really qualified to be a beta tester, based on what you did with the C3C beta test. But wasn't there some controversy after the beta was over involving Atari and yourself? (hope you don't mind me asking ).

Yes; in writing my review of Conquests for my website, I had used some images that were from the beta (you can't do that). They asked me to pull the images, I did, and that was the end of that. I just hope that that doesn't disqualify me from any future opportunities with Firaxis/Atari.

Well atari dont own Civ4, so i really doubt it will come back to haunt you, unless they have a list of 'people who we dont like' and passed it onto taketwo.
The prerelease article says that the game has been in development for nearly 2 years, and many testers ahve given input already, so i presume most if not all beta spots have been taken up.

Speaking of Atari and the new Publisher (Take-Two/2K), I also heard Firaxis' new webmaster say that the new publisher will be offering more support for released games than Atari ever could. He said that at the Hooked on Pirates! forums in a thread discussion patching issues. I think that is great news for Civ IV as well.
