I'm not understanding this. I had a millitary alliance with a country, then after the twenty year period, they cancled the alliance. No big deal. Except now all the countries are saying that I betrayed them. I don't recall doing anything of the sort. Is this a bug (it has happened in nearly every game I've played), or is there something that I'm missing?

Did you fight the civ you signed an allience against? Say you signed an allience with the Egyptians against the Indian. If you didn't fight the Indians, it will cause a rep hit. Can you give more detail?

Yes it's probably this, if you don't send troops to fight, they get really mad at you. when i did it they canceled the alliance, stopped the war, and made an alliance against me...

Are you sure about that CT?

Actually it was I that asked for the alliance. And I did fight. I was the Chinese. The Germans declared war with me. I asked nearly everyone else for a military alliance against the Germans. A few turns into it two of my allies declared war on each other. Because both were still my allies, I didn’t want to get involved. Might this be the problem?

Thats why. By not helping either of them your rep got hit, I's kind of a no win situation. You help one you betray the other, you don't help either you betray both, its sad isn't it?

Wait. You said military alliance. Did you mean mutual protection pact?

If you had a MPP I can see taking a hit under those circumstances, although I'd like to hear the uninvolved and offended civ's explaination of what you could have done differently.

If you only had a military alliance against Germany, I don't see why not fighting in a different war between two in the anti-Germany alliance should hurt you.

Or was one agreement a military alliance and the other an MPP?

I dont think so I think he ment that he had an alliance with a lot of countrys but he had a MPP with 2 of his allies that ironicly declared war with each other....am I correct?

In my first Civ3 game, I asked the English to ally with me against the French. They agreed. There were a few periods of peace but Elizabeth and I kept coming back and eventually I captured the last French city. Later as I was negotiating with the English, I noticed my advisor saying "we shouldn't trust the English, they betrayed our friends the French"! :crazyeye:

I can't absolutely rule out that the English surprise-attacked the French during some turn when I was at (a very uneasy) peace with the French. But I wouldn't bet on it. Other diplomatic functions of Civ3 don't make much sense; why should this one?
