Beyond Earth good now somehow?

I can't believe I bought the game. I can't stand it. And it's only good to play again if I buy the expansion. That is plain absurd. Hehe

Civilization iv was ok because it was the first civ with true 3d. CiV on release was just completely awful. I have high hopes for RT because it seems a lot more ambitious than G&K which basically just readded features like religion with the exception of spies. We'll see how it goes. I'd say I enjoy BE as it is right now more than I did CiV right after it released. Every civ expansion has been a big improvement over vanilla and I doubt this will be any different. Although it usually isn't until the second expansion when the game starts to feel like it has any depth.

I heard the terrible reviews of BE so I waited. Tried it on the free to play weekend a few weeks ago on Steam, and thought it was decent enough for the half price it was. Hopefully RT and the new patches will improve it, but I would certainly say the game is decently playable now, and not terrible, but once I get through another couple games, I will likely put it aside and not really look back.

I disagree with these gents but will probably get reported by someone for being a troll since I like BE and continue to play it.

Hi, my friends and I are very frequent players of civ5, and we usually get together and play it. Have been doing that since BNW.

When BE came out we were hyped but we tried it for about 7 days when it came out and just couldn't stand it.

When we were talking about it one of our friends said it was bad when it first came out but it's WAY better now...what makes it better, what exactly changed?

You don't actually say what you couldn't stand about it or why your friend said it was bad. However, it is unlikely that anything will have changed that will make it better in your friend's opinion so my answer to your question is "No, it's not good enough for you" Perhaps you should ask your friend what he thinks made it better?

I happened to like it fine enough on release and it's gotten even better for me with the two patches. I've put in about 150 hours on it so far and continue to enjoy it. I'm a bit of a rarity on these boards though. There are quite a few folks posting here though who feel that they have done a 'fair' job of balancing it out even if it still needs a lot of loving. And there are also a fair number of folks for whom absolutely nothing has made it better. Indeed, they'd even say it's worse.:D

Well, yeah, that's pretty much it. If you think of BE as a deluxe total conversion / an addon / a standalone spinoff for a 20€/$ price tag, it is actually okay. I still wonder if the overall perception would have been better if BE had been sold as a CIV5 addon. I, for one, would certainly have been more lenient on some of the design problems. Hmm...

I like BE and actually played it more this year than CIV V. :D

But anyway in reponse to the OP, I recommend waiting till Rising Tide comes out before trying it. We're only a month away from launch.

I like BE and played 2000 hours of Civ V. One thing I like, for example, is that you can customize a city through specific improvements more than Civ V.

I think wonders are weak in the game, but then nothing forces you to build them

I think a lot of affinity leaf nodes are weak, which does limit the game, for me. Because I tend to play Purity. But someone could play Contact or Domination, and pick and choose techs a bit more carefully, but you still need quite a few levels of some affinity for decent units
