Ok, most of us are good enough to have our palaces completed early in the game. So does that mean the people stop loving us? Of course not! A friend who played an older version of Civ (part 2 I think) said that after the palace was completed, citizens would give gifts to you to furnish the palace. How about bringing some of then back, and for the really good players, have monuments erected in your honor around the palace.

I think its better if the programmers use their time to improve the more important things of the game. Do you really want them to use time making shiny gifts rather than improving the gameplay?

Gameplay is important but sadly if they want to sell the game to people who haven't played Civ before then the graphics do need to show an improvement... Otherwise at a glance it looks like the game is outdated.

I agree it's not the most important improvemrnt needed. It's just a suggestion on something that could be done. Besides, I'd imagine this wouldn't take much programming: a handful of tiny city Icons and several updated lines of code.

I think that it is a combination of both. You need effective gameplay, but it's the little things like this that make it a little more special.
I suggested this same thing when Conquests was being constructed. I hope they implement it.

maybe combine the throne room from civ 2 and the palace from civ 3.
the throne room was more custumisable as well. i havnt suceeded in making a multi cultural palace look good yet.

I think the palace expansion is borring because it doesn´t do anything. I would like it to have a strategic function like the founding fathers had in Sid Meyers Colonization. Something where you choose between some palace (or throneroom or whatever) elements that will give you different bonus'
If its just for the look then drop it.

Yes, give me both a palace and a throne room, like t3h_m013 said. You get 2 screens to choose from whenever your people feel the need to express their love for you. And make the pieces so many that only the very best players can possibly finish upgrading both. After that add gardens and monuments to the outside of the palace, and gold sculptures and treasure chests for the throne room. How's that for a supreme ego boost? :mwaha:

And Martinskriver's idea about certain elements giving bonuses seems like a good idea too. How's this:

Mesoamerican elements = religion boost?
European elements = military boost?
Greco-Roman elements = science boost?
Middle East elements = luxury boost?
Far East elements = trade boost?
