Beyond The Sword (Retail) will not install

I bought a digital download version (Bigpond , Australia) of CIV4 recently. It was 1.61 and wouldnt update to 1.74 even with the download provided by Bigpond. On this forum I found a reference to a Trimedia Patch. This worked beutifully and I am now at 1.74. The Retail ( DVD) version of Beyond The Sword I bought today will not install ( Install Failed ). This a disappointment to say the least.
I have read that Retail will not install over Digital. Has anyone found a way to overcome this or have I wasted my money ?

unfortunately in most cases the retail versions are not compatible with the digital ones. The only exception being direct2drive who actually promise that their Civ4 is compatible with the retail BtS
