Biggest Total Research/Beaker Science City?

Aloha all ... not sure if this is appropriate for this forum, but I'm curious to read about specific strategies on getting to a really large beaker count in a super science city (capital im guessing bc of bureaucracy).

I have a science city at 280 beakers at 100% research ... im sure that's pretty marginal ... im also curious bc of reading Sulla's adventures, I remember one of her episodes where her total research output was through the roof! Im only at 757 w/ 7 cities :sad:

Soooo, if anyone cares to post their highest beaker count for their science city and/or their total research output count for their empire, id be very appreciative. Tips and hints on getting there too are nice!

Beijing (Bureaucracy): 775/turn

Monarch level game. city had four gold mines eventually (one showed up later) and flood plains for cottages.
 
Assuming Library, University, Observatory, Academy, and Oxford University, you have +200% research, so 259 beakers pre-multipliers. That'd mean 173 commerce pre-bureaucracy, or say 2 settled GS, GL for 2 free scientists + 3 scientists, all together 48 beakers under rep, and still 141 commerce. Assuming strong trade commerce (say 40 coins), 101. Towns produce 6 with Printing Press when riverside (no Free Speech when running bureaucracy).

How can that kind of research be achieved? I'm generally happy when my capitol is producing over 200 bpt, so there must be something I'm missing.
 
just run reprensentation and settle loads and loads of specialists if you want nutshigh in one city.

I'm not quite sure, but I believe that the civilization remained in Representation and had quite a few specialists to go along with the cottage/gold industries. The 1394 AD save is here:

This was right before launching the space ship, so Laboratory had also been built for the science multiplier.

If you can play it out from 1394AD, it's fun.

Beijing outproduces my whole empire!!! Wow ... I better try some adjustments ... I think I save too many forests for the health bonuses and waiting for lumbermills :/

Dont forget the lil monastary bonuses ... if you happen to have 4 religions in your capital, thats 40% more! ;)

It's not 40% more, because you already have library, university, academy, in all likelihood. So you're going from +100% to +140% with the monasteries, which is only 20% more. And monasteries are obsolete after Scientific Method, right?
 
Hmmm ... im just doing the simple math of 10% per monastary? idk ... i guess ill rephrase it to monastaries can give a small boost early on in the game (10%/per), so dont forget about those if you can build them in a reasonable amount of time. Sadly on warlord lvl games, I usually can found all the religions and thus build monastaries like crazy in my capital for the research bonus and the missionaries to earn more shrine income (playing noble now and usually only found hin/jewism).

The University of Sankore also works well with the building of of monastaries for its +2:science: boost for every state religion building ... up until scientific method obsoletes the GLibrary and monastaries. (thanks for mentioning that part DaviddesJ) .... so lets say 6 cities early on w/ monastary and temple plus one stupa/cathedral/academy/mandir/mosque (i wonder if the shrine also counts?) for an unmodified boost of 26 more beakers spread thru your cities. (+6:science: in your capital if you plan it right)

Free Religion later in the game adds back 10% to research ... better than nothing i suppose :)
 
I never pay much mind to it.
I remember having a city with over 900 science, but this was single city challenge with Oxford University and scores of super specialists with Representation.

i feel really bad....

as a first timer here, i got 34x of total output... with maxed out scientist...

boy i suck! if ne one is patient enough to play with me online so I cant learn a bit!! that'd be great!

Ahh, so its also having multiple high commerce trade routes that make the most difference? I tend to close off my borders and now I can see how another +20~+30 commerce can multiply into lots of beakers.

I have seen over 1000 beakers in a single city in some bragger's post.
But think about simple maths :
library +25%
university +25%
Oxford +100%
Academy +50%
observatory + 25%
laboratory +25% (a little too late to be significant, but you asked for max output)
No monasteries, if you have a lab ;)
That's +250% of beakers.
Let's say you're running Free Religion (+10% science), bureaucracy (free speech may be better depending on other cities), representation, free market and have open borders with a few neighbours, all having large cities.

You have 5/6 commerce per mature cottage (town) in your city.
You have 5 to 10 commerce per trade route.
You have 6 beakers per scientist.
You have 4 beakers per artist.
You have 3 beakers per other specialist.
You have 9 beakers per settled Great Scientist.
... (it's getting tedious, but you see the point)

Let's say size 22, running 2 scientists, 2 settled GS (not a very generous assumption!) and 15 mature cottages (the rest being food rich tiles) and 4 (8 commerce each) trade routes.
you have 8*4 + 15 *5 = 107 base commerce (not a really big one).
With bureaucracy, that makes 160 commerce.
Let's assume you run 100% science (tough point, but you look for max output).
So you have 160 beakers from commerce.
You also have 6*2+9*2 = 30 beakers from specialists.
That's 190 base beakers.
With +260% science (250 from buildings + 10% from FR),
you have 684 beakers.

That is just a reasonnable science city, nowhere near an abusive one (like starving and running 7 scientists for one turn just for the bragging rights).
If you're running science cities with less than 500 beakers / turn, you're missing something IMHO.
 
OCC is a special matter.
You don't have to care about maitenance cost, and don't have to adapt your civics for more than 1 city, and you can put all you national wonders there.

Those things excepted, nice to see one of those 1000+ beakers city in this thread ;)

Its from my entry for Gminor12 - chieftain difficulty, pop 40 - 20 of those scientists plus 1 from Statue of liberty, 2
from Russian UB, 9 settled Great scientists (I stopped settling them when lightbulbing gave more beakers... Obviously library, University, Observatory, Russian UB (replaces lab), Academy and Oxford, running Representation... gives 1200+ beakers a turn :D
Also running Bureaucracy and Philosophy and State Property
