black terrain

This is the first time I have updated Video Drivers. No problems w/ speed just w/ black terrain.

I have not called Tech support yet.

No performance problems here either. Just blackness on most terrain tiles.
Pentium 4 2.5, 512 RAM, SIS 650 64Mb, 20Gb free.

No, I haven´t called support yet. Maybe I should, but I bet they'd just say that any non-T&L card is not supported... And we all know this is NOT the case.

re blackness - in your case I am not at all sure this will work, but some Users have tried the Harkonnen Patch for other reasons and reported that the blackness went as well. So it may be worth a try, its easy to do, and easy to deinstall, it does not touch game code. But as pointed out above whether or nor SIS cards work - not a clue - if not, no amount of patching and fiddling will get it working.

You maybe lucky over non-T&L, but it seems to be an important aspect, would be very interesting to find out if it worked for you with a non-T&L card.
