Blid-01- A ring to rule them all

Just because it was the only free city at the time I wanted to build the settler. It only took 5 turns, no biggie. Sorbonne was whipped so I let it grow, but you're right it should have started the scientists earlier than now.

EDIT: I'd advise against whipping the pagoda in Paris. I cringe when I read people whipping buildings in high production, low food cities. It's only got 4 turns left to finish.

Turn 0 :
- I hire a scientist at Sorbonne and send musketeers for intelligence.
The first city, Libyan, is poorly defended. It is size 5 so no draft there.

01-LibyanDefense.jpg

But I need to take those knights on the hill. Grenadiers are good to wipe them (I hope). Upgrade four experienced maces to greandiers for 440 gold to do that

Huamanga is well defended. I don't plan to ever approach this city. It is blocking MM and that is the most important thing. Only 2 mounted units there. Good. I don't like seeing improvmenets pillaged

02-HuamangaDefense.jpg

Note the indian worker building a road to Delhi :crazyeye:

Turn 1 :
- Found Rheims (I don't know if it well ever grow and work sea tiles before colossus is obsolete but whatever). I did in all my turnset, tried to get some sea tiles worked

03-RheimsFounded.jpg

- Troops head to Libyan. Units on the hill are hidden into the city by HC. Is he sensing something ?
The CR cats are kept in Lyons. When upgraded to cannons, those units will be far more valuable and won't just die against longbows. They can take even rifles.

Turn 2 :
- Tabriz starts a courthouse. Lyons finshes grenadier and starts a cat.
I take 210 gold from HC as ransom then declare on him the same turn. What lack of chivalry

04-HCRansommed.jpg

I also find this deal with Mansa tempting. I want to upgrade all units that are at hand and this guy has a loooooot of money

05-TradeWithMansa.jpg

First grenadiers loose to knight and longbow on the hill. Grrr. I finish them with musketeers. They will have promotions next turn.

Turn 3 :
Libyan has 5 units
cat 1 Bombard city and reduces only 3% culture and I brought only 5 cats. pffffbt.
Send cat 2 against LB. Withdraws and causes only colateral damage.
Send cat 3 against LB. Withdraws and do direct and colateral damage.
Cat 4 dies but LB is brought to 0.5/6
Take the city then with grenies and musketeers. I tried to get all 4 xp units to 5 xp

06-LibyanFalls.jpg

Research is set to liberlaism. No one has it yet but HC has economics so they must all compete for liberlalism at the moment. We can finish it in 8 turns and have almost enough money to continue at 100% research.

Turn 4 :
Pagoda is finished in Capital. Capital gets back to settler
I upgrade one musketter to medic I to accelerate healing. I plan to stay a little bit at Libyan waiting for HC and Mansa to clash at the borders. Mansa must be transporting his SOD to HC borders now.
There is already some happiness problems. We lost the fur traded with HC and WW is at +1 in many cities

Turn 5 :
Kill a knight of HC trying to pillage a farm
Asoka is the first to discover liberlaism . I keep researching it. This is good trading material and value has already decreased by 2 turns. We also need to adopt free religion for the extra research and attitude with Hatty and Asoka
If Hatty decides to declare now, we are toast

Turn 6 :

Troops are again on the move. Asoka used liberalism to discover steel. He is the most advanced AI as he has little land and organized trait. Mansa and Hatty are crippled with their vast empires maintenance costs

Turn 7 :

I whip courthouses in Tabriz and Ningh-Hsia.
Mansa troops have arrived. It is more secure now, so I take Lyons extra defense to Libyan
Paris finishes settler and starts a university

Turn 8 :
Troops are at vilcas doors. I bombard city then a greny kills the Longbow. All other units have poor odds against a mace. I decide to wait for next turn to make the final blow

07-VilcasDefense.jpg

Turn 9 :
Raze Vilcas with a loss of a cat. Muskeeter looses to LB in the open at >90% odds. Second muskeeter kills another LB. We get a free worker from Vilcas and city is razed. HC culture is overwhelming here

08-VilcasFalls.jpg

Turn 10 :

A stack is healing and preparing to go take Macchu Picchu or raze Cuzco.

09-SOD.jpg

- Liberlaism is discovered and research is set on printing press. No beakers invested yet so we can switch to something else.
I am taking this as the path to rifling mainly and the extra money (printing press) and production (repalcable parts) won't hurt us. Hatty is running mercantilism so the great lighthouse is not giving much benefit at the moment

- I did not revolt cuz I thought we might decide on this together but free religion seems like a no brainer here

- There is a settler in Libyan to settle a filler city between Libyan and Macchu Picchu (see sign above) and claim the spices

- Rheims will grow next turn. I think we might whip the granary and start a lighthouse or courthouse there

- The iron is now 50% malinese

- Huamanga has not fallen to Mansa yet. I guess a raging battle is going up there. It'll be great if we manage to do the same between asoka and Hatty

Fellowship :
blid -- just played
acidsatyr -- UP
Kikinit -- On deck
Asperge
soooo

acid, are you able to play in the 72 hours timeset ? If so, I'd rather wait than have you skipped for 2 consecutive turnsets

@sooooo : how did you manage to take that screenshot with a view on all the ring. I can't do the same here

You might need that too

blid, Acid posted in the out of pocket thread that he is out of action for a while. So I guess that means I'm up. I think I'm going to be up in every SG I'm in at once. :crazyeye:

@Blid: To take the zoom-out picture you have to edit your Civilization.ini file to include the line AllowFlying = 1, then press CTRL + ALT + F in the game and zoom out.

Nice turns by the way. Good luck Kikinit!

cancel deal sheep-dye with Asoka! We have sheep from our own. This will give us one or two extra happy faces (theatre). Free religion also gives most of our city's extra happy face:)
Good to see financial Mansa having hardly any gold anymore:)
Within one turn we will neen banks more than libraries/universities, i suggest Ning-hsia and Orleans and later Paris > bank.

I was wondering, too. But i can only show that thumbnails, how do you put a nice picture between your text as everybody does ?

Asperge,

You put the image line between the tags to get the image in-line. To see how people do those fancy things, press the quote button and read the code.

Nice catch Asperge about the sheep trade

Kikinit, play it when you can. No need to rush it

I was thinking of advertising to get a replacement for acid, so what do you think ? Do we need another player or we just keep it going with four players roster

EDIT : BTW, I am out town from June 24th to 26th 10th to 12th (sure I was sleeping) and will not be able to play

I have no problem with getting a replacement. If acid comes back, we'll just play with 6 people. That's a good number as far as I am concerned.

By the way, this is my got it.

Goodness me, Mansa is becoming a monster. How are we going to deal with that. I also note that Asoka has got 2 holy cities on the coast for us. That's nice of him.

Is everyone happy with the techs printing press and then replaceable parts? Sounds ok to me.

I am hoping Mansa will sacrifice lot of units stupidly on HC Cities. Raze only the cities that are putting pressure on coast. With chance, war with HC will be over before Mansa manages to take too many cities.
If we take HC coastal cities and raze his capital, He will be crippled enough not to be a threat anymore

I posted in the registration thread that we are seeking a player

Playing now. I'll follow the instructions and take the coastal cities and destroy cultural pressuring cities. Let's see what can be done in 10 turns. Probably not much more than take one and move on the next.

I'll also cancel that deal with Asoka.

I've played the turns but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for the report. Sorry about that. I'll let you look at the save while waiting.

A bit of info, I took Machu Pichu with a bit of loss as it was on a hill and the cats and even CR2 grens can't do much to fortified City Garisson II + III Longbows.

HC is having fun pillaging everything in sight and he took the Western City of HC.

As I said, I'll give a few pics and turn by turn tomorrow but I've got to sleep now.

"I have no problem with getting a replacement. If acid comes back, we'll just play with 6 people."

Thats good idea. Sorry guys, this really wasn't planned, but there's nothing i can do at the moment.

Welcome Frankcor. The variant is a bit harder than plain monarch, but keeping a team strategy make things easier than single player games
I'll put you on the roster end so you get a chance to see how things are going on here

I'll update roster once Kikinit posts his report

I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but I thought I'd point this out just in case:

We can dial up MM, select Discuss Something Else and tell him to attack Cuzco. That way he'll soften up the defenses for us before we raze the city. If it looks like he is sending too strong forces over, we can attack it instead. He has a few knights in the area which would be useful as they wouldn't take long to get there. Right now Cuzco looks well defended. Maybe we should pillage instead, and attack the next coastal city with our reserves sitting in Lyons and Lybian.

I didn't know it worked with war ally. I only did this in team games. Live and learn :)

The promoted grenadiers already have >50% odds against the garrison III LB. Launch some suicide cats and the city will fall with very few losses
I am afraid MM will only turn all the LBs into garrison III with his inefficient attacks. He seems to have an infinite number of units and his power graph is frightening

I was about to argue for settling the new city before Mansa steals the spot. The settler is waiting in Libyan. But our economy is really in awful state (+20% in the green). Army is costing a good bit. Good thing Kikinit went on infra during his turnset. Those banks and courthouses sure will help. BTW, I would whip the courthouse in Tours

I just noticed that MM and Hatty don't know each other yet :crazyeye:

Defense in Cuzco is down, 7 defenders and 6 attackers from Mansa. Wait. Huayna plays before Mansa so when Mansa attacks , Huayna hasn't time to heal his forces and we will finish him.

After Printing Press i want research economics, free market is good for our economy and free market is Mansa's favorite civic. Except this, if we only research a part of it, Huayna will offer us the rest when we make peace with him. Research it till Huayna is willing to give the rest for peace. In meantime research something else. Hope this makes sense for you
