Blid-01- A ring to rule them all

This is going to be tough. Have we got any Cavalry? They might be handy now to go on a cottage pillaging spree in Asoka's lands. That could keep our economy afloat during this war and then Asoka will have trouble getting out of it. I will have to just take what comes our way. Looks like we're in trouble to me.

I'll play this tonight hopefully. I've got another SG to do first and I'm not sure that will leave enough time for this (and the demands of my son).

@Kikin : no cavs, but I think MM knights will do the job. Check for his stacks to decide on direction to go.
Asoka is playing defensive. The artillery he sent is dead
I lost the medic musketeer so Lahore stack needs a new one. One of the cannons will do I guess
No hurry for tonight, war turnsets are time consuming :)

Is this an understatement ? I don't give us much change to win this game but Asoka seems to be very passive so that's good. Well done Blid :goodjob:

We must at least get that other coastal town before making peace. Don 't forget to whip when losing citizens! Sparta can get that theatre in 1 turn. Hope with steampower we will have coal so not only our ironworks-city will get a boost but we can make a few ironclads to protect our fish).

Let's at least own the whole ring at some stage in this game :D . If we then can't win from that point, such is life. I think we do stand a chance if we can cripple Asoka. But I haven't seen the save yet.

I agree it's gonna be tough -- but hey, if it was easy, they wouldn't need us, right?

Asoka isn't the real problem here. The real problem will be when it's time to pick up Egypt's ring-cities. We might even consider simultaneous amphibious invasions then quickly declare peace and resign! :)

Guys, I didn't get to this last night as a lovely ex-colleague of mine asked me out to watch the football with her and it turned into a hangover inducing night... I'll get to it in a few hours though, so bear with me.

Guys... I am about 6 turns through and are being attacked by artillery every turn. I am down to only cannons defending Lahore and they aren't any good against Cavs who get a bonus vs. them.

Asoka will only take peace if we return Lahore so i can't get any respite and keep Lahore. I do not see any chance of keeping Lahore and am thinking of going for peace. Actually... as I write this, I think that is not an option and I will just have to hope to hold it and hope that MM hurries up and attacks with his huge stacks.

So basically, ignore this message :p .

Well I held onto Lahore but have no chance of continuing our attack as we are severely lacking in military power due to our units being old in comparison to Asoka and Hatty for that matter.

IBT: Artillery attack Lahore and we lose 4 units plus our fishing nets have been destroyed.

(1)-1780AD - Hmmm... How to hold Lahore! Asoka's artillery will take it back in no time. I ask for a cease fire but Asoka rejects it. He'll only take peace if we give him back Lahore. He's quite adamant about this as I tried every turn through to the end and he asks for Lahore every time.
I go offensive with our cannons and attack the artillery. Got 2 of them but lost 2 cannons.

IBT: - Lose another rifle... Almost no defenders left! All cannons  .

(2)-1785AD - Just moving lots of units around.

IBT: - Lose another rifle.

(3)-1790AD - Kill offending artillery but the cannon is stuck in enemy territory now.

IBT: Lose a cannon and a rifle.

(4)-1795AD - I move a force of cannons towards the next city. We have to do this now and get him quickly and hope that he'll then take peace. I think it's suicide as I don't have enough units but we are aiming for a ring and have to at least try.

IBT: Loose a rifle and a grenadier this time.

(5)-1800AD - Steam comes in and I go for Railroad to allow us to at least get some decent defenders to hold these cities.
MM has some huge stacks moving through our territories and going for Asoka. I ask him to take Karachi.

IBT: We lose 2 more defenders... Can we hold onto Lahore??

(6)-1802AD - How now?? I only have cannons as defenders. I pulled the force that was going towards the next town back to boost the defenses by at least a little bit. Cannons are not good defenders against cavalry and artillery.

Asoka hasn't changed his mind about peace. He wants gold too.

IBT: Now Mansa makes peace with Asoka!!!! We are screwed!

(7)-1804AD - Just moving units around again.

(8)-1806AD - Whip a rifle in Lahore and get a CGII rifle to the city finally. Maybe we can hold it for a couple more turns. Not much good against artillery though.

IBT: GK has decared on us!! F**K. Now is not the time arsehole.

Civ4ScreenShot0179.jpg

(9)-1808AD - Classic, GK is attacking us with the power of his Keshiks.

(10)-1810AD - Well... didn't get anywhere in terms of expanding our ring on these turns. But at least for the moment we're holding Lahore and GK is not really a threat to us.

Here's the situation at Lahore.

Good luck!! We're going to need a bit here.

And the save:

Seems like I handed you a though situation Kikin. You did good managing to keep the city. GK delcaring was a nuisance, but MM playing chicken was the hardest coup. I was hoping he would cripple Asoka by pillaging everywhere, but I guess he is yearning to join the space race.

We can revolt to nationhood and hire rifles to defend. Lahore is culture pressured. If we sign peace now, the city will be useless. Play it by ear and sign if the situation becomes too critical, WW and emancipation penalties are striking

Asoka has railroad now. we are going to face machine guns, but at least they don't have bonus points against cannons

Kikinit -- just played
Asperge -- UP

Got it.

hmm i love playing when chances are zero, nothing to lose ;)

i'll play tomorrow, wait for advise/comment,

Kikinit, what's that geat merchant doing nothing in Sparta? I don't like using great people for a golden age.
What the -star-star-star-star, We took two of Asoka's city's and he wants us to pay for peace ???? Never experienced that in my own games.
I'll collect some money, see if Asoka wants peace for money.
Price of coal is 48/turn > ironclads, i doubt if it's clever to make a fleet to take Asoka's last city...

It's hard to give advice at this stage of the game. Just try your best to fight asoka. Not much point in getting peace right now. When MM's peace deal expires, try to get him to declare again for railroad. Asoka prob wants a city for peace because we lost more units than he did in the war. Shame we have no coal. I would use the draft too.

10 turns of army-building, and this are the results:

Forget it Asoka, take a look at this graph:

Civ4Powergraph.JPG

summary

- revolted to nationhood, whipped some barracks in city's without,
- destroyed almost immediately a new city of Asoka, only a few attacks from Asoka,
- Mansa and Hatsheput decleared on Genghis, both are now friendly towards us, but the deserter Mansa is also friendly towards Asoka.... We destroyed one mongol city and done some pillaging,
- don't understand why Asoka doesn't send galleons with an army to us,
- we got 1500 gold from trade mission,
- after 8 turns we got Railroads, bought coal from Asoka for 48/t (don't forget to cancel when we don't need it anymore),
- 2 ironclads are being made, we can make machine guns,
- army in Lahore: 1 machinegun, 14 rifles, 15 cannons, 4 cavalry, more underway,

sooooo, go to war, enjoy yourself!
-

Seems like good news Asperge. What is the new city you destroyed, was it a new built one ?
Do you mind posting the save ? ;)

@sooooo : I think GK will die in a few turns. Send a cav or musketter on pillaging spree there while cities are still in revolt

You are just to fast Blid (and my uploading is to slow),
yes that was a new founded city by Asoka that was only defended by one artillery, it was north-west of Lahore, you can see the ruins in the save, i suppose.
