BNW - Losing Holy City status

Heathen Great Prophets must be sneaking through your borders, m'lord.
I would recommend purchasing some inquisitors to place in your religiously important cities to stop this madness.

Nope. That's not it as the AI hasn't been sending them my way. Haven't actually seen any AI GP's, save 1 MoV who went to buy Zurich. I've noticed that my Holy City DOES have at least 1 other religion in it, from trade. Could that be it? If so, that needs to be corrected in a hurry. I don't mind having other religions in my cities, provided I don't lose my majority status. In my Holy City (Capitol city), I have 14 followers of the state religion and 1 'other' religion....so it's not like I ever lost the majority status. Staking inquisitors in all my cities is SOP for me...

It shouldn't be losing Holy City status, even when converted to a foreign religion, though.

Can you still build Grand Temple or the other Holy City wonder, though? Maybe it's just the description that's not working.

Nope, can't build a GT or the Borobudur. Neither shows up in the build list. This isn't the first time either...it's happened in at least 2 other BNW games so far.

Hmm...that's quite an issue, then...

But you're sure that the city could build a Grand Temple if it WAS a holy city? Or that the Borobudur isn't already built?

Maybe this post belongs in the bugs forum.

I've conquered a holy city capital and then used an inquisitor to rid the heathens. I noticed it lost it's holy city status, even when it gained some of the believers back. I thought this was a new feature but maybe it is bugged...

Played to turn 200 - by then all cities had a temple, but no Grand Temple for me. Also, in the religion report, it shows my cap as the holy city, BUT mousing over Paris, it's not listed there and I still can't build the GT or Borobudur (which hasn't been built by anyone else either).

I'm beginning to suspect that once your Holy City acquires 1 follower of any other religion, it loses the Holy City status.
I've only seen it when it loses all of its own believers - I've had plenty of times with a holy city having a minority religion as well, and recovered from my own religion being a minority, but not recovering from being wiped out.

What's the save from? Ideally would be one just before it vanished and one just after (though the first would be most useful, I believe).

Sadly, the save is from "when I noticed it" and not a turn before or after (well not that I am aware of). This is my cap city and it has never had the main religion (Buddhism) diminished to a minority though I'd be fine with it losing the Holy City status if that happened.

If a city has as many pantheon as religion believers, the religonbelievers don`t have the majority, so the city loses its religious status. kind of weird as the pantheon believe is part of the religion, but the gameplay is like that. Could this be the case?

There is no mechanism for a pantheon to reassert itself after incorporated into a religion. (In fact, pantheons export no pressure, so they can't spread on their own by pressure.)

Tried to open the save, but I can't find v.2 of one of whoward's mods that you used (have v.3, which is also on his website, but no v.2).

Hmm...not sure which of Whoward's mods is giving you grief. Let me know the name and I can attach it to the thread.

@ZYX - I don't think the Pantheon was the cause cuz the city only had 2 religions, Buddhism and Eastern Orthodoxy, with Buddhism being the majority. No followers of the pantheon to be found in any of my cities at that point.

Never mind. I was able to fiddle around and get the game to load with v.3 of the AntiAir Only Defensive mod.

First, nice start. I've never seen two natural wonders spawn within 2 tiles of each other and within 3 tiles of a capital - Kilimanjaro and FoY, no less. Good call on One With Nature. GBR off the coast of Tours doesn't hurt.

Second, nice gold stack. Over @24K gold in BNW. Gotta be some kind of record.

Anyway, I presume Paris was your Holy City -- it says it is your Holy City on the Religion Overview - World Religions screen. But, as you've noted you can't build the Grand Temple there, which is a tip-off that it has somehow lost its holy city status.

The only things I can think of are a misused Inquisitor (you bought an Eastern Orthodox inquisitor by mistake and zapped your own Holy City in an effort to eliminate Eastern Orthodoxy after Theodora zapped you Holy City with a Great Prophet) or a mod conflict.

What other mods were you using (besides the two Whoward mods that were required to load the game save)?

Nah - that was an IGE start. I've yet to actually finish a BNW game and have been trying to see if the benefit that comes with MT Kilimanjro is decent. I only play till about the beginning of the industrial age (if I get that far) and then restart. Mostly trying to get a feel for different civs and such, that being the case, I only play on Deity level.

Paris was the Holy City. Interesting, you state I bought an Eastern Orthodox inquistor? I'm not sure how that happened...are you sure I could buy one? I've not had a case of an AI GP zapping any of my Holy Cities in the game cuz I always buy an inquisitor as one of my first faith purchases to prevent that very thing from happening.

Barbarians - Unlimited EXP
Faster Air Animiations
Global 2 units per tile
IGE
Promotions - AA only
UI - Condensed Promos
UI - Enhanced Rankings
UI - Trade Opportunities

I've started yet another game and I'm about to found a religion so I'll be able to see if I lose the Holy City status again.

Eastern Orthodox inquisitor was just a guess. If she did zap Paris, you would not be the first person to buy an inquisitor of the wrong religion and then kill their own holy city. But, let's see what your next game brings.
