How about if Hyborem and Basium gained a bonus trait if they managed to kill the other? Or if they captured the Holy City of Order or Ashen Veil?

Why not? Makes sense flavor wise, and arn't they ALLREADY at perma-war?

Not really. What happens if Hyborem does not adopt AV and builds the mercurian gate? They are best buddies everafter, even if Hyborem does adopt AV at a later time. Or Hyborem can just abandon AV if Basium the wimp is too scary. If a human player plays Basium, he will not be forced to automatically declare a war on Hyborem. And finally, though Basium is certainly after AV, why should Hyborem care about Order specifically? At its worst, Order rivals AV in 'evil'.

True, the flavor and what actually happens could turn out completely differently but I can still dream. :crazyeye:

Basically the bonus trait should apply if Basium or Hyborem manage to kill the other as opposed to making it a religious requirement?

Well, it would be possible to remove the possibility of building the Mercurian Gate for Hyborem. Also, it is possible to force him (when played by the AI) to go AV. Or even just to force war between the two civs.

Also, when you say "kill the other", do you mean killed the unit or the civ? Pretty different :p

Either one works.

I mean 99% of the time Hyborem WILL go AV, because Infernals automatically get AV in every city every turn. Go try it: found a city as Infernal. It'll automatically get AV next turn. If all your cities automatically have a AV, it's almost always going to be the best religion to pick. I think Order is automatically scrubbed as well.

And since Basium will automatically declare war on every AV civ every 10 (?) turns, they will be at war 99% of the time. I'm not sure but I think Hyborem does something similar.

There is a restriction on Mercurian Gate that makes it harder to build with AV, but I forget how it works exactly. It might just be that you can't build it as AV state religion.

AV state religion prevents building of the mercurian gate. AI controlled Infernals will always go AV, because every infernal city has AV religion present. Furthermore, Hyborem cannot adopt any other state religion. However, when played by a human, the Infernals can choose not to follow a state religion at all and thus, will be able to build the mercurian gate. Once the permanent alliance with Basium has been established, it requires cheating to get rid of. Hyborem seemingly has no forced war declarations.

IIRC every religion that isn't AV is removed from Infernal cities every turn.

Which means Hyborem only have to stay at No Religion instead of AV while building it. I would like for the Infernals to be incapable of building it though, since the only Religion they can adopt is AV (Hyborem has -100 for every non-AV religion which means the player can't adopt any of them while playing as him).

In my experience, only Order is removed from infernal cities.

Just checked and it seems I remembered incorrectly, doesn't change that they are incapable of adopting any non-AV religion.

Not that I'd want to. Ashen Veil is just too awesome on so many levels.

I think that there should be some bonus for them holding the holy city of their own religion.
So if for example Basium held the Holy City of Order he would get a :) bonus in all his cities.

Definitely Basium and Hyborem should get some sort of bonus they can try to achieve. That would give them another thing to work for (other than killing each other and saving/destroying the world).
