I have this problem when playing civ 3, I'll get around just before the industrial age, and ge incredibly bored because: 1)no more land to sttle because of enemy 2)enemy wiped out 3)enemy still there because I think I might last till I can use tanks to play with them 4)way to much land to settle

Anyone have solutions to the civ 3 blues? I haven't gotten past industrial age because of it.

You can call this Civ 3 Stagnation. The Doldrums, if you wish.

You've knocked off the Continental rival. As usual there is nothing left to explore after galleys (a major problem), and you are left waiting for tanks to begin an offensive - even though historically offensives occured regularly before tanks, be it with Napoleon or even later.

There is no ebb and flow to the game. It's a problem of dynamics. Part of it is due to the AI's stupidity and inability to use bombardment as offensive weapons (they were Napoleon's prime offensive mover).

what you could do is try and make perfect cities or say that yo are going to try and reach the modern age by say 17c

I used to play games up to the industrial age, then get bored and start again. I really like the first 2 ages, but after that it's not as fun. Do you do this in really close games too, or is it just the ones where it just takes time to kill everyone?

I believe what zouave is saying is what I'm talking about. on number 3 I meant it is I'm keeping them alive, they have 3 cities, I have the rest sort of deal. And what bobgote is talking about is what I'm talking about, but to what zouave is saying, is there a solution?

Sadly I'll have to agree with Zouave in that the game doesn't flow through each era. You need to get to tanks to start a later offensive because the middle game units aren't good enough and the AI doesn't like them either. The only interesting part of the game besides the tank era is the swordsmen era and anytime the AI decides to launch a midgame offensive which is rare. Of course, there are plenty of ways to have some midgame fun :)

Gonzo: i have had plenty of mid game offensives, most that i let the AI start. Calvary and Knights are awesome units for there age and so are Artillery/infantry stacks. It just all depends on your play style. Though i will agree that the AI really needs to learn how to conduct wars efficently.

in my games they dont declare war that often which is annoying because you have to go and declare war on them and get a hit in your reputation

o i might try that but you know in civ 2 do you still get points if there is world peace for a whole turn?

The solution for beginning offensives before the arrival of tanks is lots and lots of artillery. Coupled with infantry and you have a WWI style offensive force that CAN take enemy towns!

You guys talk as if it's easy to ship all those huys over the ocean!

I've always gotten my continent, then became stuck, as I can't get all my galleys or galleons over there, or enough to create a constant stream for a constant offensive.

all you have to do is build tonnes of transports and tonnes of units in one huge mass you dont need a stream and anyway if you are in the modern age all you have to do is capture one city build an airport and ship all your units over through that

a good thing to be doing during those times is aim for WLTKD in all cities. it's quite a challenge.

use the caravel and navigation tech for bridging them by ships. i'll be using it myself shortly to destroy 'them' since it's allowed in GOTMs.

but 3 units per turn:( i see what you mean. better land them all in one turn.
