How did it go?
Were you pre-game settling plans working out as you hoped?

As I'm having a stressful time, I messed around a bit this time instead of thinking everything through thrice. And I'm having a great time! Thanks for this game!

Settled on the spices because I just couldn't let the gold go. As I'm going for Domination and I expected huge distances between AIs (met first AI on turn 40 I think) Horse Archers were a given. So...

I built the Great Lighthouse around 1300BC. I was getting nervous because Oracle was gone BY 2000 BC ON MONARCH! That would be fast even on Deity. Didn't go for any other wonders (or Granaries/Barracks/Libraries/... for that matter) because after the initial two Settlers, a Worker and some Workboats I needed to make Horse Archers, and lots of them.

I met five other AIs by 1AD, though two are dead and I don't know where two of the others are. Because of that (mostly internal traderoutes) and heavy whipping, GLH isn't putting my economy into turbo mode but I'm content. I have Currency and didn't get to tech anything afterwards though my Great Merchant will bulb Metal Casting soon.

Boudicca was the first to go. She just finished hooking up Bronze so I attacked, took a city, razed Bronze and made peace - only to attack again three turns later, this time for good. She had three cities, all very keepable. Then Victoria who also had only three and no metal at all. Now I'm eyeing Hatty with her six cities. All AIs can research Feudalism now which is bad, though espionage says Hatty will research Maths for the next five turns. She has no metals as well and I'm almost in attack position. If I can take her cities I will beeline Guilds for Knights which seems still a long way off unless I can soon get external traderoutes again.

1AD: 11 cities and 16 Horse Archers.

Good job folks! And thanks for reporting. MarleysGhost: what kind of VC did you set out to win with, and are you still on that plan? 6 cities is fine for Culture victory, bet then you'd need to tell us how many religions each city has for us to see how its going.

If you haven't decided a VC by 1AD, I sympathize.;)

It's my second Monarch game and my first on a normal size map, I always play huge or large :)

As usual I played too fast and conquered too slowly. I struggled a lot to decide where to put my second city and my production is very bad. Missed the Oracle but got the GLH. Not sure how this one will pan out yet - I've taken two cities off Boudicca but she's still alive.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't have played this map if it was randomly generated - the city spots are terrible :D

MarleysGhost: what kind of VC did you set out to win with, and are you still on that plan?

Since I've already posted my final spoiler, I won't say any more about that in this thread.

But, in general, I tried playing cultural games a few years ago, but I don't like that approach. It just worries me too much to see a tech lead thrown away, hoping the AI won't attack with their ever-increasing military superiority.

1AD stats:
7 cities; population: 9, 7, 2, 4, 3, 2, 2
resources per city: 5, 3, 2, 2, 2*, 1*, 3 (*settled on Silver and Deer, to be able to net both NE fish)
so, not too bad once calendar comes in; still pretty poor and I've crashed my economy with 32 gpt City Maintenance.
Making -1 gpt at 0% science; Currency is 12 turns away at 18 bpt from specialists; after that fixes my economy, I will tech Construction for Catapult war. [hmmn, I sh try those horse archer thingies one of these games] ;)
No Wonders, see screenshot for who/what, No Religions, No Wars :(

No chosen victory condition. (still true hundreds of years in future when I'm writing this)

AT 1ad, Celts are dead and I have 7 cities, though I only built 3.

My economy is in the toilet... and someone is wonder whoring out there. Oracle gone before 2000bc like some of the others.

Aim is to get to Cossacks....
