Mao of China. Mao's favorite civic is State Property and so he starts with Communism. He is Protective and starts with Archery.

Game settings:
Playing as: Mao of China
Rivals: 5 AIs
Difficulty: Deity
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: Normal
Options: No goody huts, no random events, permanent alliances
Victory Conditions: All enabled

Map settings:
Map: Islands with extra islands

Mao is Expansive and Protective, and you start with Communism, Agriculture, Mining and Archery.

The Expansive trait gives +2 health/city and +50% hammers for worker production and double production speed of Granary and Harbor

The Protective trait gives free City Garrison I and Drill I promotion for archery and gunpowder units and double production speed of Castle and Walls

Unique unit: Cho-Ko-Nu (replaces Crossbowman)
The Cho-Ko-Nu benefits from: 2 first strikes, and can cause collateral damage (max. 60% to 5 units). This compares with the Crossbowman which has: 1 first strike, and cannot cause collateral damage.

Unique Building: Pavilion (replaces Theatre)
Provides Theatre benefits plus 25% :culture:

Here is a link to a list of the differences between Vanilla, Warlords and BtS.

Software Versions

Windows: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 installed. You can download the BUFFY mod here. Players using Windows Vista or Windows 7 are encouraged to read the notes on Vista fixes here.

Macintosh: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the Mac BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 installed. You can download the Mac BUFFY mod here.

While playing...

Remember - for your entry to be accepted, it MUST be your first attempt to play this game, and you MUST NOT replay any turns. If you make a mistake while playing, you have to live with it, learn from it, and carry on the game without replaying.

We will open 'spoiler' threads during the month for players to discuss what happens in their games. Do not discuss any details of your game outside those threads.

You get an extra week to finish because I'm a couple days late and boats are tedious.
Map is unaltered. Four tiles east of forest revealed, everyone would have moved warrior to see them.

After my last easy deity game, I resolved to give you a "normal" one instead of an easy one. But I just couldn't do it. ;)
This game has barbarians that start with: Wheel, Agriculture, Hunting, Archery. So, you get archery too. It might help you survive. :mischief:

Deckhand,
Where's our free GSpy?..j/k. Damn CommieArchers...I hate 'em.
Permanent Alliances too eh?...somehow that always screws up my diplo/religious victory vote counting calculations.

Yay for State Property! Such a nice civic but I hardly ever get to use it...

Boo for lots of barb galleys! I hate them with a passion...

Might be kinda fun to build a Security Bureau Intelligence Agency as first building  just cuz we can ! And whoa, just occurred to me...chopping the Kremlin like....in the BC's !

Just a hint: read what it says in the starting screenshot.
:scan: Expansive doesn't give +50% hammers for worker production. It gives only +25% :hammers:

[Warning: The following contains real world facts about the current Botm leader. If you quote some of this in China or in any other police state you may get imprisoned, executed or just plain vanished, permanently.]
So it's time to play as the deluded paedophile with the extra tech for economic stagnation and domestic mass murder. We even get to build a "wonder" for the tyrant to live in.
Spoiler :
How unlike the real world where another mass murderer rules from this structure.

I might be tempted to SIP. Some seafood and gold, even :sheep: if there's not enough young girls for the fat child molester to spread his STD's. And a billion Chinese worship the memory and carcass of this scum.:vomit:
I'm guessing our rivals are Japan/Toku, Korea/Wanky, India/Assy, Russia/Stally and Mongolia/Kubly.

Can't see any reason not to settle in place. I suppose move the warrior SE and see if another seafood is available if we settle 1E and to get the fresh water and unpillagable 3food lake (with lighthouse).

Permanent alliances gives us who lack deity-level skills a chance for a victory.

Main thing for me... DON'T forget (again) :blush:to change civics at start... especially if moving the settler.

State Property gives no prod bonus until chops i think, you'd need 10h minimum for a 10% bonus?
Tested with worker first to be sure, no gain ;)
An extra turn of anarchy early would be wasteful, but switching together with slavery would work.

Can somebody enlighten me about Diplomatic Victory + Permanent Alliances? If I would be running against AI X in the elections and then get a permanent alliance with him, would that mean that I am automatically pitched against another AI while our alliance gets the votes that both me and AI X would get?

Yes, you get a new AI opponent. No, you don't automatically get the votes that either you or your partner would get. You get the votes that result from an average attitude that an AI has with you and with your partner.

So it they love you but hate your partner, they will no longer vote for you. If they love your partner but hate you, they will no longer vote for your partner (you).

So diplomacy gets complicated, unless you choose a pa partner who is liked and disliked by the same AI as you..

Who cares about other votes? You have yours and your partner's. That should be enough.
Unless the vote won't come up, like it doesn't if you have enough votes to win on your own?

You need at least one AI (your partnerdoesn't count) to vote for your team. No vote option comes up if you (including PA partner) have enough votes to win on your own =64%) Simplest way is with vassals - they will always vote for you even if they hate you, and they are still counted as seperate AI.

There's no fixed time for when spoiler threads are created. It's a very manual process, so tends to be when the Mapmaker gets around to it. Personally, if I'm ready to do a spoiler but the thread isn't up yet, I'll normally just type it into Word or notepad or something similar and save it. Then when the spoiler thread is open, I can just copy and paste it (and do some formatting) into the thread.

(Actually, I tend to do type into a text editor first anyway, even if the spoiler thread is already up. That way I don't lose the whole thing if my browser crashes on me when I click to post it - which has occasionally happened.)

I'm going to beat you, My! ..bring it ;)

Spoiler :
hey, I can dream can't I :crazyeye:
