So how did your game after 1AD go? Did you overcome all odds and defeat the AIs?

I retired from this game. I guess I role-played Toku a bit too much  - no economy and continous war (though I DID open borders with Wang).

The start looked strong, with four cities at 2000BC and having taken almost all of Pacal as well by 1AD. I got to Engineering within reasonable time, made Trebs and accompanying units and attacked Sury.

But my economy was too weak for continous war. Already early on, almost all my cities had to produce Wealth to not go into strike. So unit supply suffered, and as a result the conquest was a lot slower than it could have been. I also didn't have Samurai yet as I couldn't get the commerce to research Civil Service.

"WTH" moment of the game: putting a lot of hammers into Collossus in different cities for failgold. Waiting for the AI to finish it...wait some more...many hundred years later discover that I am the only one owning cities on the coast .

So I slowly grinded Sury down to four cities. Then I made peace and - having finally gotten Samurai - started the war on Roosevelt, which went much better.

However, it's now 1280AD, and while I can take down both Roosevelt and Sury easily from here it probably won't be enough for Domination since Wang's culture is slowly swamping my core cities already and he just took a city from Sury. The game is very winnable but it would take a lot of time to get enough units to beat down Wang.

Thanks for the very nice setup DynamicSpirit! Judging from the other games posted in the 1AD thread Toku is finally going to get some wins...

^Yes, the economy becomes a big drain on this map. While I finished engineering as planned with conquest gold I didn't complete guilds, which was the next tech, until the game was over. Since engineering at about 150 AD I spent the rest of the game at -GPT at 0% science.

Could've remained in bureaucracy and squeezed out guilds if it was required, but samurai+trebs were more than enough. Knights wouldn't help much in this particular game.

Nothing special, but a win's a win. Score around 200k, 1635 AD, conquest. Sury took New York around 2000 BC and America was dead by 500 BC, which made Sury distressingly big distressingly early. I was able to take Pacal without much trouble but it took a long time to build an army that could take on Sury. I started by taking NY and Washington but couldn't hold them for long. Reloaded (figuratively), tried again, this time starting from the east, and gradually pushed him back toward the NW corner. Wang also had a boatload of units, of quality similar to mine, and progress was similarly slow, but I eventually got him to capitulate.

Some of the 1AD spoilers described situations rather different from mine so I replayed. This time, Sury and Roose were the same religion and Sury went after Pacal. That let me snipe Pacal's three best cities before Sury eliminated him. Tech progress by 1AD was similar to what I had in my first attempt but I had more cities and Sury wasn't as big. I didn't play much farther but it looked like things would move more quickly than before.

Meanwhile... can haz new hard BOTM pleez?
