After one of the scouts revealed wheat to the south, decided to settle 2SW. That happened to give stone 3rd ring, so as it came online I tried for both Stonehenge and Great Wall. Failed the first for nice fail cash, got the second for relaxed expansion. Got Pyramids a bit later too. Hammy founded judaism and started spreading so we became buddies until he parked 3 workers on a square adjacent to mine, which was too tempting not to take. Kissed and made up but planning to elepult him soon. With tech trading off, he won't be of much use anyway. Of course forgot about that setting until after getting alpha and wondering bemused why no techs would show up.

Haha! But on the up side, with tech trading off, you'd have had to have researched alphabet yourself at some point anyway ;)

Yeah, at least I could build research which was kind of useful, although probably I'd gotten straight to currency bypassing alpha if I had remembered. Then again, I could also steal two very minor techs (priesthood and monotheism IIRC) thanks to a spy.

Ah. that's interesting. I did wonder whether or not no tech trading would turn off tech stealing as well. Evidently it doesn't.

I settled in place and met Hammurabi fairly quickly. After the barbs showed up, they were quite a handful, but I managed to build the Great Wall in 650 BC and then the GLH in 275 BC. Only 5 cities by 1 AD, but expansion should be easier, now.

I had some serious rl family problems, so not much time to play and even when I played I was not able to focus ... one time I considered attacking what I thought was an AI Great Merchant traveling without any escort - turned down the guy was mine ;) put on auto pilot couple turns earlier.

I got Great Wall early so watching raging barbarians from behind that wall was fun
