Immortal save, ppossibly greedy but was able to get both colossus+glib and 6-7 cities around 1ad, and now cities are churning out warriors and growing pop. I don't know if I'm just lucky but the terrorists are completely ignoring me but they're eating mao up. I think walls+longbows or something on the northeast peninsula will be enough to hold until a proper attack

Same save, but you're way ahead of me! I just settled my 4th city (16 total pop) and got the GLH in 225 BC. Working on MC and aiming for the Colossus, but that's a ways off. Have you chopped every tree in sight? I'd love to know how you got so much farther than I...

I sent the settler to the NE coast, worker 1W+1SW to the coast hill. I settled 1W of the wheat and was happy to see the fur. I sent the scout counterclockwise around the inland sea coast and have met almost everybody, and had trade routes with Mao for awhile, but a barb settlement eventually cut that. I'm a few turns from popping borders on my SW city (by copper) which should open up routes to ~all the AI. 4th in score out of 7, but we top 4 are all tightly bunched (top score is 327, me 317).

I'm expanding west on our peninsula. Lovely land N of us on the mainland, but it must be infested by the Terrorbarbs by now, and I tell myself it would have been hopeless to try to hold them off up there. I may try to expand on unclaimed land across the water to the S and W before tackling the barbs. I need to plunk a unit on the isthmus to keep them from getting any ideas about coming after me.

I just checked my save, settled 7th city +colossus finished at 300ad then glib at 375ad. I was just guessing since I had played beyond 1ad and never play non-ancient era starts
Were the barbs/terrorists a problem for you? By 1ad one single barb at spawned on my peninsula and not a single terrorist had tried to attack me

A lion ate my original archer at 3% odds , but otherwise barbs weren't really a problem. Oh, right, a bear ate my scout way over in America, too. The Terrors have left me alone.

Thanks for clarifying about your status--I feel less inadequate now. ;)

Great. More people chose immortal. So did I. :)

Chose SIP. Didn't like the best alternative, going N(E), away from the forests. Expanded to 5 cities, 19 pop. 1 settler in place for city 6, 1 settler just whipped.
Currently preparing to build some wonders, GLH, Colossus and GLib is the plan. Just finished Aest after MC and started on Literature.(do not have Currency).

Since Mao found me I sent the scout where he came from and moved on clockwise. 1 AI not met because the scout died. I did make sure to clear all the coast along the way for trade routes
Sealed off the corridor with a warrior on the stone, so terrorists are no problem. Neither were barbs (even galley fog busting was easy). I did watch barbs invade terrorists, nasty peeps fighting each other. :)

Edit: I miss Moai with this classical era start.:(

Unlike most (all?) of the others who have posted in this thread, I took the Contender (Prince) save. That makes my report sound pretty pathetic. Settled in place, and at 1 AD I have four cities. No wonders yet, although I'm working on the GLH.

I took the contender save and sort of regret it. Just cruising along aimlessly now.

Spoiler Screenshots :

Have lost Orenburg to the Terrorist twice now, but managed to build Pyramids in capital one time I held it.
The AIs have hardly built any wonders, Mao got Glib and thats it I think... Except the Terrorist built Chicen Itza in their capital which I took from them. Holing up there with 2 elephants and 4 swords now.
I was planning on libbing democracy and spam cottages everywhere but not so sure anymore. Getting frustrated by the Terrorists and might change tactic to just cuirstomp.

Playing kind of OCC with the capital. Rostov have finished MoM and Parthenon because I don't want GArtist pollution if I can avoid it. Settled all GPersons so far.
Maybe trying for a quick diplo could be a thing...?

Challenger save.
Expanded to 6 cities and took the GLH. At first I thought it would be better to start the attack after engineering since there's a long way from home to the front line. I changed my mind when the Terrorist built the Pyramids.

Great report, thanks! I thought your first screen was from 1AD and felt completely inadequate, until I have read the date more carefully. Feeling only moderately incompetent now, as always playing BOTM ;)

Contender save (I wish it was Monarch instead of Prince), 5 cities, 29 pop

Popping borders is PITA in non-espio games so I decided to try a gambit: I wanted CoL early anyway for a specialist economy; normally, I would try to find religion in a capitol for eg future shrine, but this time decided to use it for 2nd city express border popping. I decided to settle a super-city very far West - like 9 settler turns - but is is such a great city I think it was worth it.

Other than that, building GLH now, wondering whether settling stone for building Mids is worth it or is it better to start to conquer? Minor civ is doing surprisingly well this game, sometimes topping score, but no AI has built a wonder yet.

@Fine_Distinction I did play the contender (Prince) save though! Wish I had not, looks like the Terrorist could have been quite a challenge on immortal and that would have been fun.

Thanks, @krikav! Interesting to compare, impressive 7 cities and 23 pop on Immortal. Are you building ToA for yourself or fail gold? It looked very tempting to me, but then you lose on trade missions, so I thought conventional wisdom was not to build them if you plan to use several great merchants.

I was also not expanding so aggressively, since I had only place left for filler cities or cities next to terrorists, I was planning to add filler cities only after GLH, but seems that most rex, would be interesting to replay.

@Fine_Distinction I didn't play on immortal, I played on prince difficulty!
I did end up building ToAr in my capital iirc, I built most wonders there.
You get a bunch of easy great people point from ToAr so it's nice to pair with national epic, ofcourse you lose the possibility for sweet trade missions as you mentioned, but my plan was to settle most great people instead and merchants are nice to settle with their +1 food.

I made a plan quite early on how to settle the entire peninsula as efficient as possible, making room for multiple filler cities. I didn't build GLH though, which I probably should have!

Take it as a compliment, I have read your comment on regretting playing Prince, but based on your skill level, assumed you played immortal anyway.

Yep, I probably should have settle filler cities already, I was hoping to get happiness from Mids or HR soon so grew my biggest cities 2-3 pop into unhappiness already, but I should probably just whip this unhappiness into settlers, will take time before I get more happiness.

Interesting that you build ToA for GPP - I was tempted to do it for TRs in my best coastal city. It is interesting also that you settle your great people - do you put all of the in the capitol for a mega-GP farm or something like that? what other national wonder you put in your capitol?

So far I settle GP only once, in an AW game (BOTM 195) when we started with GS, seemed not worth it in other games, but probably because I normally never do Oxford and very rarely Wall Street.

Settling great people probably doesn't make much sense in at least 9 out of 10 games.

And in the large majority of games, I never built oxford either.

Of the national epics, only heroic+national comes into play regularly.
