Generous but intriguing starting area, and a very appreciated extra warrior (thanks, @DynamicSpirit !).

After much pondering, decided to settle on the floodplain 1SW on t0, to be able to work that nice tundra FP, later the double pigs, while also avoiding orphaning the clams. Riverside was also a must for the :health:, to counter 2:yuck: from 7 FPs, IIRC. Maybe a move to the gems area could have been better, not sure. :dunno:

Early exploration showed a beautifully crafted FP paradise (for those addicted to cottages like myself) on Earth's North Pole, but lacking on :hammers:, so slavery should be the answer to this problem.

Also no strategic resources, but I suppose that was hinted by the mapmaker on the announcement thread, so I self teched archery soon enough. Lost a few units to barb archers before securing the entire island, but other than that we did ok.

By 1AD we have 9 cities (including one on the metal island). Tech progress is ok, a couple of turns from CS. Exploration outside our home area is almost non-existent (an everlasting flaw in my gameplay), but we were met by 4 of the 6 AIs and were able to get some resources and a few tech trades (up to Monarchy) from them, and also nice trade routes.

I guess further expansion by force will be needed, hopefully we'll be able to deal with the challenge.

Interesting start indeed, I also settled SW with the pigs, I figured that it would be much better for expanding quickly while with all the flood plains a nice bureau cap would still be likely. I also came to that decision after realizing that an improved deer would be still worse than an unimproved flood plain, and getting those workboats out for the sea food at the gems would take a while. Still, expansion wasn't all that impressive but all the cottageable icey lands were nice. I'm at 10 cities but just 32 pop. I managed to get the GLH which is definitely nice with mainly coastal cities. I settled 3 cities off shore, 2 on the metal/marble island to the west, but first before discovering that area, straight on the horses SE of Berlin in what would be roughly Denmark on this earth2 map. From there I had a warrior walk all the way to Korea where Hannibal's home is, so I met all AIs. Tech is doing well, I have CS and MC, now on aesthetics as I'm about to hook up the marble. ;)

I have only 4 cities, whipped hard so pop is about 12 at 1AD. Cottage spamming on my way to being a technology beast. I have an archer and settler ready to settle the metal island next turn. I only have 3 workers, though, because I had a lot of barbs to deal with. My scout is double promoted and has killed several barb warriors in defense, but is now in fogbusting mode. I have another settler ready to roll... not sure if I should go for the horses or avoid the nastiness of Ramses, who traded a few good techs for writing. I still have more cottage ice plains to settle on the home continent, so I am maybe going to cottage for space or just find a sweet spot to kill my opponents. Anyhow, I have Monarchy and slavery and more than that would just be luxurious. I failed on the Great LH, but the cash for that was also very welcome. I am pretty sure of a victory, but whipping is not my strong point, so I am not threatening anyone for a fastest VC or medal. But I am having a blast, so thank you mapmaker!

My game went quite differently to those above. I settled next to gems and had barb trouble because i couldn't quite get enough units where they needed to be.

I was worried about the lack of strategic resources and missing an opportunity to expand into the continent.

So I self researched construction and feudalism and was assembling a wooden army with a plan to invade Rameses asap (early ADs).

I only had 5 or 6 cities and was so hammer poor that I was building archers and then upgrading them to longbows for 95 cash each!
