BOTM 84 Final Spoiler

That's a good space date and a very impressive total score! Much harder to get over 300k point space victory than domination victory.

Lumber mills are powerfull, but you usually get them way to late for them to matter. It's almost always better to chopp and use the land (farm/workshop) than waiting for combustion and railroads.

Thank you. In the last 10 turns after the ship had been launched, my points climbed up from 260K to 330K, about 7000 points/turn.

I checked last 5 BOTMs(1705,N/A,1550,1730,1550) and last 5 prince BOTM(1932,1755,1665,1830,1802). It seems that you are already very close to break the BOTM record(1545). I still remember how the record of 1545 was founded in BOTM 59 in which I completed my first space game and 4 game records were broken.

I have the same thought with you about lumber mill. However, in this game, I find that quite a few chops can be saved because of cheap library/courthouse/lighthouse/factory etc.

IMO, chopping for a project with ROI=20 (turns) is the same as farming.
1. The length of chopping is 4 turns to get 30 hammers, i.e. 7.5h/turn, with the building ROI=20, it can generate 0.375h/turn for the empire revenue.
2. The length of farming is 5 turns to get 1 food, i.e. 0.2f/turn, if 1f=2h, it can generate 0.4h/turn for the empire revenue.

Therefore, as long as the project ROI is over 20, chopping is not as preferrable as farming or cottaging at early ages.

Another indicator is the ROI of worker. If the worker is generating 0.4h/turn, the cost of itself(60h) will be earned back in 20 turns. Therefore, the ROI of worker is also 20.

Is it a coincidence? ROI 20 seems an easy metric to make a decision whether or not the project deserves the investment.
