Well what a game! Even after so many years of Civ GOTMs, somehow people keep finding ways to push the boundaries of what you can achieve even further. The big news on this game has to be sossos managing a space victory in 1575AD. This means that he got through almost the entire tech tree to victory in just 225 turns – less than half way through the notional game length (500 turns). And with around 50 cities that means he founded or captured a city on average roughly every 5 turns! This remarkable feat means a rare silver medal for a space win, and appears to have caused two remarkable casualties:

Firstly, a new player Pollina – who has entered the GOTMs for the first time (welcome, Pollina!) – and secured a 1650AD space win, playing with the challenger save too! Ordinarily, this would be considered a remarkably fast date for a space win. But against sossos - it didn't even come close.

And secondly, greatbeyond went for a time victory, presumably in an attempt to gain the cow in 2050AD. But sossos's massive empire beat even greatbeyond's base score – 9810 to 9459, thus claiming the cow.

And with that, sossos has become our newest eptathlete. Congrats sossos. :goodjob:

Meanwhile, the fastest domination went to nocho – domination in 1090AD – again pretty remarkable considering that on this map, domination required taking land on the overseas continent. The fastest conquest wasn't much slower – that was achieved by Frederiksberg in 1180AD.

The other medals went to solyaris (gold, for a 1350AD domination) and hhhawk (bronze - for a somewhat later 1580AD domination). hhhawk did however have a harder task since like Pollina, he was playing the challenger save.

With 43 entries this appears to have been a relatively popular map, perhaps because of all the greenery around the starting area? The map apparently caused problems for a few though – with no less than five losses or retired games.

Here's where everyone settled... I deliberately designed this start to give you all a bit of a dilemma - your capital could get any two of being riverside, having the wheat or having the gems, but not all three. And there was the possibility of a 3h city centre tile on the marble, but you'd have to lose 2 turns to get to it. It looks like there were quite a variety of choices in response to all that, although the vast majority opted to keep the wheat. Settling on the marble, foregoing the riverside capital, turned out to be the most popular single choice.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Impressive results, especially sossos' spaceship date! I actually thougt I'd get beaten to my domination date by a good 20 turns or so. At least in my game I could've beelined astro quite a bit earlier.

Anyway, fun game indeed!

Congrats to winners and all participants, with victory or without. :goodjob:

Yes, there were some impressive dates and scores, as always. It seems that BOTM is reborn again. I see several new participants, with some considerable names. Wellcome and continue with us :hatsoff:

And with that, sossos has become our newest eptathlete. Congrats sossos. :goodjob:.

Congratulations sossos :cool:! That is a big award!

About me, I'm pleased with my result, knowing where I must improve :p!

Thanks DynamicSpirit :thumbsup:! Keep it up!

Gotta ask, what's the eptathlete award?

Sorry, I didn't understand your question :confused:... Don't you know about the Eptathlon Award?
At the link you can select various games (GOTM, WOTM, BOTM) and various awards (medals / other awards). In the other awards category, the Eptathlon is listed at the top. It is awarded for having a fastest finish in each category. Plus cow in vanilla and Warlords, or Gold medal in BtS.

Solyaris, you are 2/7 - but you have the hardest which is the Gold.

Wow, I cant imagine I got fastest culture award even though Zulu captured my 3rd city as a result of worker stealing xD

Zimbabwe with NE and NPark for great artist rules!\

It is strange that there were only 3 culture submites with such a unique building, resources and not being forced to tech astronomy ever

Thank you DynamicSpirit for creating this game and writing those special notices in the summary. This is really the best Christmas gift I've received so far this week.
I just feel a bit uneasy because there are also a lot of good space results this month, such as Polina/Jastrow/Neilmeister's space victory date. They are also good and look more efficient than mine in terms of game length.

@greatbeyond
I also feel a bit sorry to you. I didn't anticipate the cow when I saw your 16K score in the final spoiler thread. Actually the award of cow might be the most difficult for me since it's not a part of Eptalone.
Spoiler :
I crazily spawned 20 settlers in the last 10 turns with mine/sushi to have them increase 1 pop/turn. I have to confess it's evil. :devil:

@nocho & Falabello
Thank you. Gracias & Obrigado.

Congratulate to all submitting for this game. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Don’t be silly. I played most of the game on autopilot with hardly any micromanagement. I would have felt uneasy, if I had won an award with a sloppy game like that.

Congrats for achieving an impressive finish date with an equally impressive score! :goodjob:
