Well given that this was an all-land map, with easy access to all the AI and you had fast-moving impis to boot, I thought when I set the game this would be dominated by military victories. I wasn't far wrong - most people did go for conquest or domination, but there were a few surprises.

Fastest conquest went to evil_spock on an amazing date of 275 BC - yes you did read that right! A BC victory, achieved in less than 3 hours of real-time playing!

Meanwhile big congratulations to shulec who becomes the latest eptathlete! He managed this thanks to a 1050AD fastest religious victory. Well done shulec! :worship:

The gold and silver medals went - predictably - to domination victories - lymond in 1260AD and htadus a little later in 1560AD. But Solyaris captured the bronze with a religious victory in 155AD - and in the process only just pipped bcool's 1645AD spaceship victory. bcool was incidentally a full 300 years ahead of the next fastest spaceship victory - Kennigit in 1964 AD, who in the process won the cow (to be fair, Kennigit did play the challenger save). In other news, Minou got fastest cultural (1550AD) and Welsh Gandalf won fastest diplo (1725AD).

As usual, well done everyone! I enjoyed looking at the results and reading everyone's write-ups.

Here's where everyone settled.

botm90FirstCities.jpg

An interesting variety of positions. Lots of you chose to settle in place, although some people moved 1E, presumably in order to settle on a plains rather than a grassland, thus avoiding wasting a riverside grassland. There were several plains hills in striking distance, though settling on any of them meant either losing one of the food tiles or losing the fact of being riverside, and a small number opted for one of those sacrifices.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Grats to the winners, and special kudos to shulec for the eptathalon :goodjob:

Only three diplo wins and I can't get either the award or the shield! I guess it's more of that mediocrity I am famous for ...

When I get one it is a matter of hit 'em where they ain't ... this time is was just plain ain't.

That was pretty much my strategy too da_vinci. I can't compete with the best toe-to-toe. It looked like prime military victory, so I went for diplo instead hoping others wouldn't, and it worked :D

Grats to all winners and players. :goodjob:

I was also trying for UN victory.
Took Radio via Liberalism 1650AD, learned MM 1660 and completed UN 1730 (no GEs).
But I messed up and had too much population (took Biology while building the UN) and never had option for victory. Frustrated and against the submit deadline (as usual) so just went for Dom.
I'm glad you would have beaten me anyway, now not quite as frustrated. Next time I will recheck how the vassal voting works etc.

Too much population for the UN? I don't think I have ever had that problem, and so may not even know what game mechanic that is.

In vanilla and Warlords, you can vote yourself a UN Diplomatic victory. In BtS, if you would win with your own population alone then the UN Victory option doesn't come up. Same with Religious victory. Vassals change the situation somewhat, but I was too lazy/busy to look up the details (or to count the population).
