Here's an "interesting" read.

It might have been posted here before, as it's dated november 11 2005. It basically claims Civ4 is anti-christian and evil.

From the site:

By the way, the game is simply more of the same boring stuff as before. Luckily they sent us a free copy because my wife reviews games. They claim it's 3-D, but there are only 3 set angles that you can rotate the view to, which makes Sid Meier not only Anti-Christian, but a liar, a cheat and a fraud.

Well, needless to say I won't dignify this senseless rant with a serious comment, but I just thought you might like to read for a quick laugh ;).

Love it. Love my hateful species.

Okay, now we need Sevo to drop a Berlin Freeper zealot leader in SevoMod 3.0.

You'll notice that virtually every reply is a "what are you talking about?" kind of thing. Nice to see that several people rightly point out the differences between Classical Liberalism and American Liberalism, though only one person notes that Scientific Method obsoletes monasteries, not religion (I guess no one else thought it important enough to comment on).

Incidentally, when I first saw the topic title on the forum home page, I thought someone had bumped this.

Aye, the scientific method thing actually does make sence. Previous to scientific method, bored monks were allowed to fiddle around with whatever experiments they wanted........ as soon as galileo and people started conducting science in a modern way (using scientific method) the catholic church felt threated, and banned their monks from partaking in such activity.

Who knew Ned Flanders played CIV IV?

how is it anti-christian?
That is what I am wondering. Plus that site is clearly innacurate and from a conservative (and possibly Protestant/Evangical Christian influence) nutjobish site.

I can already refute it's clame on this quote:

"When the Roman Empire fell, Christianity broke into two branches. Since then it has continued to fragment, with a number of branches quite hostile to others."
Clearly that is innacurate since the Great Schism (That separated the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church) happened in 1054, about a thousand years after the Roman Empire fell.

Note that the quote is actually from the civilopedia, so it is indeed Civ which is inacurate.

Parphasing:

Clearly Sid Meyers is the anti-christ because he doesn't say all sorts of bad things about Islam. Clearly Sid Meyers is the anti-christ because he doesn't only say good things about Christianity

Good lord. If this is what fame does, I don't want it!

Really? A Christian influence on that site? No way! How did you penetrate all that secrecy?

*ahem* Sorry. Anyway, to be fair, it's possible that there's only that one nutjob on the site, given that most of the comments are somewhere along the lines of "Are you crazy?" I'd have to look at the rest of the articles to make a judgement, and I don't really have the time for that.

The only, and very faintly, anti-Christian thing about Civ4 is that it accepts that other religions exist and gives Christianity no special advantages.
As to the differences between the various Christian sects, it was reported of Monsignor Ronald Knox that when a non-Catholic priest asked to share his railway carriage, saying "After all, we both serve God" the Monsignor replied "Yes - you in your way, and I in His".
Myself, I am an Unreformed Agnostic.

I guess you could view Ci4 as anti christian insofar, as Christianity usually doesn't do too well compared to the early religions.

It says at the end there is no 3D since you only have three camera angle to choose from. First of all, I'm not sure the person knows the definition of three dimensional, but, anyways, the ctrl+alt+n allows you to view from any angle...

And, don't take the civilopedia so seriously...

a lot of people have commented on the hinduism versus buddhism dominance, this is what happens when the AI does it, a human player that knows how to play religion will just as often beeline for confucianism or christianity which has a spread rate that more than compensates. more so a smart human player knows that the theology tech that gives you christianity also gives you the theocracy civic that is so valuable in religious war.

I'm pretty sure the spread rates are the same...

Yeah, freeper units....do they blather endlessly and make no sense, causing confusino to nearby enemy units??

but really, why no conservatism or GW Bush Wwonder of the world?? the anti-UN?

That "article" is a classic example of preaching to the choir. Anyone who already thinks that way is just going to say 'Huzzah!' and the rest of us are going to roll our eyes at it and move on.
