boycott of civ 4 in UK NOW!

I pre-ordered from Play who said it was the 28th, now its been moved to the 4th November. No big deal for me. Although does anyone know if that means its delivered on the 4th or sent out on the 4th? Its just the 4th is a Friday so it would be nice to have it for the weekend. Any UK people know the answer to this?

I dont see much point in a boycott, I hardly think Mr Meier and co. had planned it this way. Its just the usual delays you get with games and the hype which surrounds their release date..

Yaffle.

Well I'm smiling about the delays - I've got an enormous deadline on some of my PhD work on the morning of Friday 4th, so the most distracting game I've ever known coming out just after my deadline is quite a blessing really! :)

What a great world we live in. So efficient and connected and wired that people go crazy over a one day delay on a luxury item. (Read: a game.) We should feel priveledged to be able to expect things NOW. People in other parts of the world have to wait an extra day (often longer) for basic things like food. So in summary I would really like to play Civilization IV but hey, at least I'm not going hungry.

Same here. Tis a shame that we have to wait another week, but ah well!

Hooray!
Great news, my copy is on the plane from switzerland as we speak. I am getting it via fedex before 12 tomorrow. I am delighted my controvertial post got you guys talking, some feel its ok to wait, some are really pissed off.

I agree that a digital distribution deal is a far better solution, but come on guys, its not a case of there are no copies in the country. They are in the distribution warehouses!

Sure firaxis will have lost a lot of sales over the delay. Maybe if the did some research into the exact numbers they would be more inclined to release their products simultaneously. They are making the same mistakes the movie companies make, In the digital age, people are forgetting that you shouldn't piss off your customers. Anyway I am sorted, I am getting my copy in time for my day off tomorrow, and it only cost me abotu 20.00 quid extra, so I am happy. I just think that this whole delay could have been so easily avoided.

Just think...... your PREORDERs are sitting in warehouses in the UK, probably less than a couple of miles away from you!

Come on firaxis announce the release tomorrow so at least the retailers can sell em when they get em, otherwise we are going to have the farcicle situation of the civ games sitting in a box at the back of the store, and the retailers unable to give the customers what they want, just over a silly date!

For all those who don't want me posting here again, I won't be- I will be playing the game! See you at the expansion pack, when take 2 do the same thing......

oh shutup, its not even suppose to be out in europe until nov 4th. Its not like your changing a damn thing by 'boycotting' them.

Well from all the problems our USA/Canadian friends seem to be having with the graphics cards, I am glad I have to wait a week or two.

Can't seem to understand the slow take up of games companies to roll out their releases via the net.
Yeah, been wondering this for years. Maybe it still is cheaper for a company to buy a lot of cds, print images on them, burn the cds, make the manuals, make the packages, packaging, shipment costs plus various possible problems and delays and have shops and third parties take a share, than to sell the game online ? :goodjob:

One good thing about having to wait a week is you guys will not have to fight the ATI Vid card problem since a workaround or hot-fix will have been found to make it work. I think it would be more frustrating to have the game staring at you by your PC and not be able to play it. :)

Civilization 4 is already available at amazon.de (ships within 24 hours) and it seems they will ship worldwide:
http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009PO5IY/leonhofen-21

A newspost at http://www.civilized.de (written at 8:25pm GMT+1 on 26th Oct) says the reason for this earlier release is to have a lead over Age of Empires III which will be released on 4th of November too.
