Browser games like Astro Empires?

I remember that I used to play Astro Empires a few years ago, why I stopped I'm not sure. I was looking at starting up again but then I remembered that they gimp you if you don't pay a fee. So does anyone know of any browser games like Astro Empires that are relatively popular and free?

Nothing that isn't a craptastic broken POS. I highly recommend avoiding browser "games" like this like the plague.

I agree with you. I played Astro Empires and OGame for years also. I got so fed up with those games I actually started working on my own called "Barons of the Galaxy" http://baronsofthegalaxy.com/ . I was hoping to get feedback from the community on it.
