96K is very respectable. This game was a good example of a trade economy. The Great Lighthouse is enormously powerful on arch maps. We hardly built any economic improvements in our cities and stilled pulled out a major tech lead.
I was confused when Liquidated praised Loki for the TE, by which I thought he meant trade economy. You're right, we hardly built any economic improvements beyond the Great Lighthouse, courthouses, and cothons. No banks, no custom houses, no Wall Street, no free trade.
Not to take anything away from Loki, but where I think he deserves praise is for taking one look at the diplomatic situation and coming up with the Buddhist Theocracy strategy. That worked very well, much better than trying to stay neutral with free religion (my usual approach) would have.
I think Liq meant cottages in terms of economic improvements, but the beauty of a TE is it doesn't require cottages, what commerce augmentation we received from the sea, by using coastal cities with trade route we used virtually all land tile for production and we ran away with the game because of this. In terms of buildings, I almost never build banks, wall street, or custom houses when I plan on dom/conquest, they just take away wayyy to many hammers that could be better spent elsewhere, recently I have even stopped bothering with universities at times
I am used to diplo Cheese because that is about the only way I win Immortal and when I see two zealots in the same religion well... I know thats two easy friends if you run Theo or their religion (each can get +5 or more alone!) and in this case we could afford to run both, Shaka and SB are difficult to please and and pleasing Shaka would be pointless as he was big, backwards and stupid. Vicky had to die ASAP so it didn't matter if we were her friend, Mansa was a heathen that no one liked with no influence, Izzy and Just were easy to make friendly, and by doing so we were able to kill some small fry and keep them off our back.
By the way when I took the last save and hit end turn to check post game stuff I got a conquest instead of domination vic...
Ok, I tried again, doing nothing before end turn and indeed it's domination.
Then I reloaded, did this trade with Justinian (which I also did when I checked yesterday) and then end turn and it's conquest with 96.588 points (I traded to get more points)! It must be his world map, maybe??
