BTS is easier, in my opinion, once you've learned to manipulate the new systems added to the game to your advantage. Espionage, colonies, and corporations are three more things that the CPU will use poorly which you can use well. Prior to getting a very firm handle on these systems though, it was tougher. I dropped down a difficulty to start BTS, and found it tough, but now that I'm fairly handy with espionage, mainly, I'm up a difficulty from where I was in Warlords.

Warlords was easier, Esp. makes it much more involved.

I often read posts stating that people had to go down a level with BtS because the game has become harder.

I, however, found the game to be easier on the same level. I agree that the BtS AI IS smarter, but it also has fewer bonuses... it plays more humanlike than Vanilla, but the overall difficulty to beat them is slightly lowered compared to Vanilla, imho.

I conclude that it depends on your play style... a friend of mine won regularly on Monarch in Warlords and now has great difficulty to beat that level in BtS.

i think it totally depends if you have a good strategy adaptation for the map conditions you are in.
if you are aiming for a space, cultural victory or diplomatic victory, you always have a big chance in an isolated continent. i want to impress that if you have 1-2 neighbours in the same landmass, it still means isolated for me. at least easier than starting on a terra or pangaea map.

shortly it doesn't matter much in isolated starting locations whether it is noble or monarch. but in a pangaea map, there is a huge difference between prince and monarch.
it also makes the difficulty levels become similar if you are used to play in the below conditions

*if you disable barbarians
*if you have less AI than standart (for example 11civ is standart in huge)
*if you enable unrestricted leaders

please count on these as well.

personally I played prince in CIV4, with BTS I moved down to noble in the beginning. But now I play as monarch and will continue to try harder condinitons

3.17 makes things harder, but only because things are more realistically priced, in my opinion.

Other than that I would say the AI is still a bit laissez-faire with things, but I play on Warlord and have done only since I've had BtS.

Yeah, I'm trying to make the jump to Noble (my usual Vanilla level) now. I think I'm ready as I'm able to do random everything and still surge FAR ahead in all aspects of the game. Last time I tried the jump, I got wiped up pretty quick. Some of the changes in 3.17 nerf the greatest features in the game, but that change to corporations and inflation was really needed badly.

Sounds like you just got better. I immediately had to move down to Warlord from Noble. I'm just moving back up now (took a 7 month break from CIV)

It's obviously going to vary from one person to the next, but the consensus (and by a large margin) seems to say that BTS is harder.

Oh wow. I didn't know that ! :) Lucky Immortal players... lol. How do you guys do it? I'm still amazed when I hear people talking about getting 3 Wonders on Immortal. I have a hard time keeping up in Techs/Military let alone Wonderbuilding on Noble!

What really helped me was reading games posted here and also posting my own games up here (I've got 2 strategic games in my sig).

And it is possible to get 10-20 wonders on immortal. It's the Wonder Economy/Super Specialist Economy :crazyeye:.

Any links to threads about this Wonder Economy/Super Specialist Economy? Does it work on lower levels of play to? It might help me integrate into the Noble level. I enjoy that level more, but often lose (80% lose rate). I'm at 100% win rate on Warlord with everything random and standard resources, so I'm ready to move up.

Hey DMOC, since I don't want to take this thread off topic, I'm going to start my own thread about Wonder Economy/Super Specialists. Can you give me a little infomration there?
