BtS: Imperial Trash B

Sorry for the delay..... will post a decent report tomorrow ( I only slept 2 h yesterday ...)
Spoiler :
Basically founded capitol in GP farm site, got henge, founded one city in the FP river and I'm in the verge of founding another one. Met Vicky, boudica and Peter. Preparing to bag CoL with Oracle and settled a Prophet in capitol

My turns
Spoiler :

Cities: 3
Population: (7 total) 4-2-1
Income/expenses: 10 + 8
Science rate: 15 @ 60%
Techs: fishing --> AH --> mining --> BW --> Mysticism --> pottery --> masonry --> writing (5). I had no luck from huts as I only got some gold that I've since burned through.
Production: 9 million tons!
Units: 2 workers, 5 warriors, 1 axe
Wonders: None. I was going to build the GW with the stone but that went pretty early. Stonehenge and GW have both been built in my game.
Great People: None born anywhere.
Religions: Boudica founded Hinduism and Buddhism has been founded as well.
Civics: slavery.
Diplomacy: Peter likes Boudica and vice versa. Peter hates Vicky.
Plans: Spread aggressively to the east. There is a nice river that I want to settle ASAP. I will then backfill after that. There is some really nice land around though - a nice mix of hills and grassland. I will definitely be warring in this game.

Spoiler :
Turn 0: Settled in place based on several factors. More land, health bonus, saves a turn, and the AI as opposed to civ fanatics moderators usually puts you in a good spot. I was happy to see the Wheat. Started a Warrior and researched Fishing.

Turn 5: Popped a goodie hut for 45 gold.

Turn 7: Met Bodica of the Celts and Victoria of England. Finished fishing and warrior, began Mining and work boat.

Turn 14: Finished work boat and Mining, started second work boat and BW.

Turn 19: Warrior attacked and killed by two lions.

Turn 20: The next turn the other warrior pops a goodie hut for 35 gold. Hinduism FIDL. Bodica converts the next turn.

Turn 24 Workboat finished, begin Warrior.

Turn 28: BW complete, Copper found nearby. Begin research of AH.

Turn 30: Met Peter of the Russians.

Turn 31: Completed warrior, started Settler.

Turn 35 Revolted to Slavery. A little oops here, I was going to whip the settler, but I decided I would rather use the pop for a worker.

Turn 38: AH finished, begin Writing.

Turn 41: Settler complete begin worker to be whipped next turn.

Turn 43: Complete worker, start settler to dump overflow hammers, but will then switch to a warrior. Settle 1N or the Copper. It was a very tough choice. I would have loved to get the gold and the copper in the starting radius, but the food situation was too awful. The location I chose gives access to the Wheat. I also thought about settling on the Copper, which would give access to the cows, but I hate to do that for the long term loss of hammers.

Turn 49: A barbarian Archer - oh my - walks by scaring my worker away from moving to the Copper. Maybe mining the copper should have been first. I spend a turn building road and the archer moves away. I see the cultural borders of a barbarian city close to the south. Somewhere before turn 53, I complete Writing and begin Alphabet; forgot to write the note in all the barbarian activity.

Turn 54: Edirne completes a warrior and begins on a Library. A barbarian warrior wanders by. Over the next couple turns I sign open borders with everyone. These barbarian scares are a distraction.

Turn 58 Settler completes in Istanbul, begin Library.

Turn 59: My warrior heading for a city 3 site near the stone uncovers more barbarian culture. I switch Edirne to an Axeman. Stonehenge built the next turn in a far away land.

Turn 60: Victoria trades us gems for clams. We are grateful.

Turn 62: Settle Andera 1E of the gold. Lots of overlap, but it keeps distance maintenance down and gives us immediate access to the gold and stone. It begins production of a warrior.

Turn 63: Victoria cancels the clam deal.

Turn 64: Edira completes Axeman, Library is whipped.

Turn 65: Istanbul whips its Library. Edira starts another Axeman. The worker begins mining the gold. Alphabet in 9, but that will drop.

Stats:

Cities: 3
Population: 5
Income, Expenses: 0, 7
Science rate: 16, but will go up next turn
Techs: Fishing, Mining, BW, AH, Writing, Alphabet underway
Production: 9
Units: 4 Warriors, 1 Axeman, 1 Worker
Wonders: Thinking about Pyramids
Great People: No points yet
Religions: None
Civics: Slavery
Diplomacy: All happy
Plans: More Axeman to take barb cities and defense. Trade Alphabet like crazy. Hook up stone build Pyramids and Great Library. Find out where the neighbors are.

Spoiler :
I settled on the 1NW plains hill, built some warriors and a worker. All the basic techs were researched, extended with sailing and writing. The tech plan for the following set is masonry-> mathematics, (hammams!) and then either construction-> IW or currency-> CoL depending on whether or not there's room for peaceful expansion.

I settled two cities, Edirne straight on the nearest copper source and Ankara on the heavenly floodplain central. The plan is to cottage Ankara and move the capital there later on, using Istanbul as a GP farm.

Here's what's going on, with some thoughts on city placement. The granary in Istanbul was just whipped. What with the stone available, I'm thinking of going for the 'Mids and/or the Hanging gardens.

Just returned from 4 days of very relaxing spanish holiday!

I see all games are in, only 50$ bag's save is missing. Everybody has a chance to check out other games and do some analysis, recommendations, questions, etc. I just downloaded the saves, to see what others did. Will report back shortly or tomorrow.

The we can vote on Thursday by sending votes via PM to me. Send me your top 3, where the number 1 will get 3 pts:king: , number 2-2 pts:goodjob: and number 3-1 pts:D .

OK some thoughts on my game
Spoiler :

3 cities with a settler built for fourth. No wonders yet but plan pyramids after worker in capital (or maybe settler-(whip)-mids).
I was going to put 2 coastal cities down near Liz but I'm starting to rethink that. Maybe just one coastal to work all the big food--make that the Globe city. Put the other on the dyes. Possibly try and claim up close to Celts. Gold will be online shortly so that should pay for some expansion. SH was built late by the AI--most likely that means the mids are safe on my current plan.

Sorry about that.
I also pushed enter 1 too many times and played an extra turn

I had a look at all the saves, except 50$ that was missing.

In the best games you see the following:
3 cities, 8 population, 5 defenders (including some axes), 3 workers. Science at 15 bpt, 15 hammers, 25+ bushels. Stonehenge is available in a number of games. Copper is often hooked up, gold and stone sometimes. If you're game is below this, you are probably playing catchup. If you are ahead, you are on top.

Some improvement points at this stage:
-Settling in place makes the fish inaccessible. Moving 1 NW makes a powerful capital. Moving 1S allows settling of fish and cows at later stage.
-Fielding only 2 warriors is very risky:crazyeye: .
-Only 1 worker for 3 cities is way too little.
-Some cities are built for long term, but offer little in short term. They dont have food until calendar. Better to build on floodplains, gold/copper/stone first. Mart's Edrine is an example.

Some games to note:
Giaur: GW, Stonehenge built, good shot at pyramids.
Ungy: Doing powerful expansion. 3 cities, 3 workers, 1 settler.
r_rolo1: Going for CoL slingshot with Oracle.
Stuge: Only one with 7 defenders.
I feel yena and Mart are a bit weaker at this stage. All others are close together.

Let's see what others find!

I forgot to mention:
I pop HBR from a hut :D but I don't have any horse in sight:( .

A note about fish, it has better food than clam but worse gold. Overall I would prefer to have fish within city cross.
Important for health, especially there are flood plains to settle to the east.
Region is good for health though, early:
1. fish
2. clam
3. cow
4. corn
5. deer

Settling capital, I think the best choice was:
1 NW, fish, 2 clam, cow, +1 hammer, defense for hills
1 South, allows for settling fish, cow later
in place wastes food from fish, but still can be later connected in cultural borders.

I consider also SH quite useful, when getting religion a shrine can be built early - gold, production from organized religion.
Also golden age from one of the first prophets.

Buildings - granary the sooner the better. recovers population after whips faster, slavery seems necessary, but maybe there are good strategies without it.

I agree with the comments above, but I also think that Shyuhe's game is promising with another settler on the way and good city locations. As for my own game it seems that I should have built the second settler earlier. Well, I'm here to lear n.

Alright, I have the first sets of votes. Send your votes to me by pm.

Reasoning and analysis are helpful, so please post them here.

Ok my thoughts on some games:
I think Giaur's game is the strongest. Cities well placed--SH and GW (so lack of military OK at this point).

I like my game next--I think I'm big favorite to get the pyramids and expansion is good.
Shuyhe's game has good promise but I think a little slower.
R rolo the oracle is a gamble IMHO as it is a ways from completion here at 1400 but could work well.

I prefer to play home at this point. Too early to see if the strategy I have works or not.

I am still missing votes of:
Shyuhe
Giaur
Chopster

Can you please send them soon as. Then we can continue playing upto turn 115 (1AD) before Monday.

While still missing 3 people's votes (see above), I can announce the winner:

Giaur!
He was picked the winner by 8 people already and cannot be passed. Number 2 will be announced when all votes are in. So anyone who wants to play AWAY, pick Giaur's game or wait till the last three cast there votes.
