Hi there, first post here.
After having to completely reinstall my computer, and therefore Civ IV, I've started having a few problems with the game. One way or another I've managed to fix or lessen the issues I've been having, but as soon as one goes, another comes it seems.
Current problem seems to be related to the amount of work Civ is doing, in that I've only started to have it in the end game: on Deity, 18 player huge, marathon map, require complete kills. Saved game size almost up to 2.5mbs. Currently, it's something like July 1984, I'm on to my 10th Future Tech, ICBMs and tactical nukes are everywhere etc. so it's getting a fair way on. I've got 3 vassals, and am at war with all but one of the other 11 nations currently in the game. (Isabella and her vassals have literally just declared.) (I'm bloodthirsty, so don't mind
)
And now the game constantly shuts down my computer. I save my game just before I press end turn in case of mem-alloc errors, so each time I load this, it either shuts the computer down whilst the other players are taking their go, or shortly into my turn - more often than not, typically - when I am assigning new things for my cities to build. As of yet, I have not been given an error message when Vista restarts.
I had never had this problem before I had to reinstall, and the only hardware upgrades are a new, far better, graphics card, and a tad more RAM. DXdiag shows errors only for my old audigy 2 sound cards, in that the drivers aren't WHQL signed, but I've never had hassle from that before. Else all there seems fine.
Computer is Pentium D 2.8GHz dual core, 1.5gb ram, NVIDEA GeForce 9600 GSO, Windows Vista home premium.
Any help would be very much appreciated. (And yes, I know I could improve my system, but I had hardly any money before the recession...
)
