Hello everyone,

i downloaded BtS via Steam (german version). This version seems to have several bugs, the worst one is that you are shown to other players in online games as a user with modified files (*MOD*).

My Civ shows me, that all other users have modified versions as well (which is not true).

Steam did install all necessary updates (302), i already uninstalled Civ IV Warlords and everything else, tried to redownload/reinstall it, but doesn't help.

The other point is, that i have to download every single map in online games. Not just once, but every time a multi-player game starts. It doesn't matter if i downloaded this map before, it'll do it over and over again.

And last but not least, if i host a game i can't create a map which is cylindrical, which is needed for ladder games...

Hope somebody can help me with this, since i havn't recieved any answer from Valve (Steam).

Thanks for your help,
miL0

it's getting worse... with last night's update i can't join any game, because as a player with modified files i'm not allowed to do so... :(

There was a similar problem with the german version after updating to version 3.02, because it shipped as 3.01 originally and not as 3.00 like in the US. A regular update to 3.02 didn't update the CvGameCore.dll because of a date issue. The problem was solved by deleting this file before applying the patch. You may try this with the SteamCiv4 as well, if you like.

i can't update bts_steam manually. if i delete the local files / uninstall and reinstall bts it will update to the newest version. plus i can't use the official update files by firaxis, which tell me, that i don't even have bts installed...

It seems the pleasures of Steam are a crux here. Sorry, I can't probably help then.

Just one more idea. What if you would try to find a way to expand the last official update's cab files. You may copy their content to your Steam installation of BtS then manually. Would Steam recognize this change and try to correct it automatically? Unfortunately I don't know much about the Steam platform and it's behaviour.

that might work, but how do i get the files? i can't start the installer properly...
