bug or strange

ok i was bored so i was playin col and anyways one of my privateers went into o ne of my colonies and then the french attack but didnt declare war they only attacked that colony

after that killed them off

but my question is is that a bug or just a wierd thing in the game

That happens to me one time: the foreign decided to attack my colony and didnt declare war!! I think they loss th battle, but no matter.....
So i think that is a really wierd feactura of the game, and not a bug.

Afaik, that is something related to using privateers. I am not sure if the game always handles retaliation against privateers that way, but I had a similar experience running col for windows. Cannot remember specifics, but iirc - attacking a bunch of times with privateers hurts your relation with the other powers (given that peace is the state of affairs when they are used), and the game has the other powers attack other units or colonies without declaring war.

Its not a buy per se, but foriegn nations may attack a privateer without declaring war, so because that privateer was in the colony they were able to attack that colony.
