I have noticed some problems with my new CivIII for the Mac (i'm a new mac user). Does anyone know if these are bugs, or what?

1. Sometimes when upgrading units (all at once with shift-u) it takes the money for all units but only upgrades some (I think only the ones in the city where that one is stationed)

2. I request Archipelago, and sometimes get continents.

There was something else, and I can't remember it.

Thanks everyone.

The upgrading will only work in those cities which have barracks.
Check your cities in which your units were not ugraded. I am sure you will see that those cities don't have barracks.
And, of course, the unit must be insiede a city. Upgrading also doesn't work for units in the field.

That might be just a "lookalike", regarding to your choice of the size of the landmass, I guess.

Ho!

I guess I never really understood the full need for barracks. Thank you!

I don't seem to finish many games, since I keep restarting every time I learn some really obvious and awesome new tip or strategy. Thanks.

Hi :wavey:

Barracks are essential to any self-respecting war-monger :D The most important things barracks do for you are:

(a) build veteran units that survive battles and promote to elites and then produce leaders if you are lucky. You really shouldn't go to war with regulars at all. They are only any good as policemen, for quelling unhappiness.

(b) allow you to upgrade units as you've discovered.

Less critical, but nice to have - they heal a wounded unit in one fully resting turn.
