Building settlers with foreign nationals?

Could someone explain how you select foreign nationals in a previously captured city, whether by military action or culturally, for building settlers?

When you build a city, using a settler made up of two foreign population points, does this result in the city containing a national or foreign national?

Thanks to everyone contributing to these threads, I've got another five and a half days to wait until I get hold of civ3.

When you capture a settler he becomes a worker. Automatically. Kinda unrealistic to tell about of people you just forcibly capture to build a city for you and be part of your nation.

Thanks but it isn't exactly what I asked, and anyway I was led to believe that a captured settler results in two workers.

Has anyone out there got an answer to the original post?

I haven't payed attention to how foreign nationals get used when you build a settler.

You're right though, you can't capture a foreign settler without it converting into two workers. Incidentally - it looks captured workers don't require upkeep? Interesting.

Good point, but I've read in another thread that workers of another nationality do not work as hard as workers of your nationality. Can you confirm this?

Thanks in advance.

In my game, foreign workers are less productive than mine (took more turns to do the same job), but I'm playing Chinese which is industrious (50% productivity bonus).

The captured workers are less productive. They are about half as pructive as your own. I usually just add them to my cities to boost population and then use them to rush build.

Captured workers work exactly twice as hard as my own workers when i played the Romans on chieftan.

and to come back at the original question:
i too read somewhere that when a captured city full of foreigners ánd a couple of your own nationals builds a settler you can select the foreigners as the pop-point to use.

However, i tried this without any luck. I do not know and can´t find a way to do this.

Maybe build settlers automaticly consist of the foreign pop-points. Dumb enough i didn´t build a settler when i didn´t know how to select the foreign pop-points. So i can´t tell...
