Hi guys,

My mother's computer has a built-in microphone and I was wondering if I did too (it would help me save money and it would a be neat for MSN).

Is there any place on my computer where I can test it or check to see if I have one?

Thanks,
ansar :)

Open up sound recorder(programs->accessories->entertainment), and try to record some sound.

Most laptops don't come with built in mics. Desktops never have build in mics.

Actually I think a lot of laptops do have them, but their sound pickup is pretty crappy.

You could do the cheapest (and crappiest solution) and plug an old headphone into the mic in line and use that as a mic ( it works, but not as well as with a real mic ).

If your computer is a laptop, open Sound Recorder (start menu > programs > accessories > entertainment), look for an unexplained hole in the laptop, hit record in sound recorder and make noises next to the hole. If sound is recorded, it could be a mic. Otherwise, it isn't. Also, make sure the mic in isn't muted by something.
