I was thinking what if you had C-130 Gunships (UNtransport plane) added camo to it, and gave it the ability to support troops (like the seige towers do in the middle ages) and also give it the ability to do air strikes (and have bonuses against tanks and mechanized units)

Mabe we should put a limit of like 3 or 5 per country becuase these things are powerful?

So how what I was thinking we give it:

-Air Strike
-Bombard Defenses
-Tank strike (if attacking a tank target it could kill the tank completely)
-Defense Patrol (like how fighters can orbit cities) these things can orbit forts like they did in the vietnam war all the time, and instead of interscepting air units, they go after ground targets... (I believe in vietnam they called this a fire support mission?)

This sounds like, what do you guys think?

woah, AC-130=Awesome, AKA Puff the Magic Dragon

Air strike - yes
Bombard Defenses - yes
Bonus vs Tracked/Wheeled - sure

Anti-ground Defense patrol - not possible without adding a whole new mission type, which is well beyond a normal unit add.

I thought about how these things are being used in the world, and it's mostly against technologically inferior targets. So I've given it bonuses and flanking against them.

To ensure a bit of balance, it's very easy to intercept (-75%) because it is actually very slow flying. It also has negative combat penalties versus enemy air units, and versus the Sea units (-75%) that can target air.

So that it doesn't just replace the entire bomber class, I decided it shouldn't have the DCM Air bomb missions (bomb port, bomb factory, etc). And should have very weak city-defense reduction in comparison to the heavy bombers (5%).

This will be a very effective anti-ground unit bomber, provided the enemy does not have much anti-air.

Want to test it for me?

Thoughts:
- I have made it too vulnerable, with the double combination of -75% all air units, and -75% evasion chance.
- The range may need tweaking
- The strength (70) may need tweaking. It arrives at the same tech as Modern Armor (105).

okay, 1 tip about it's strength, a direct hit from the 105mm will easily kill a tank

Oh, and how do I put it in?

I'd love to test it, but dont know how to add units? And I think the double -75 will make it too weak. Maybe -50 each?

EDIT:

WOW! I just dragged and dropped it in, it looks great! And works like a charm! Great job on it, and I like the Air Force Grey color, really nice work man! Only think I would change is make it a -50% on each instead of a 75% on each?

Is it going to be in V 2.8? And dont worry about credit, you made it not me, I just gave they idea, so all the credit goes to the guy that made the mod.

Oh, and how do I put it in?

- Drag and drop the contents of the zip over your Rise of Mankind folder.
- Say "yes" to overwrite any files.

I use the universal MLF file, so it should not interfere with any other modmods.

I'm not Zappara so I'm not able to put this in 2.8, but he is more than welcome to it, if he likes it and decides it should be in. If he opts not to do it, then you can just download it like you just did and put it in.

Regarding changes:

- this beast first appeared in the vietnam war. Maybe it would be more realistic to make it appear earlier in the timeline/tech tree and adjust it's strength to that position?

- although 1 shell can indeed kill a tank, the unit in a game must be balanced for it's cost and position in the techtree. The other bomber aircraft at a similar tech level have similar strengths, so I'd like to at least test it at 70 for a game :)

Actually, Puff was the nickname of the AC-47 gunship.

*facepalm*
also it could upgrade so there would be two AC-130s, Spectre and Spooky with Spectre being the first one and Spooky being the Upgrade

Yea, and if you want like an earlier version of the gun ship use the AC-47, and then maybe you will be able to upgrade it to the AC-130 later on. And the AC-130 came later in the vietnam war. So I think it should apper later in the tech tree, and make the AC-47 appear earlier in the tech tree.

Here is the real "Puff the Magic Dragon" aka Spooky

*sheds a tear* that's a beautiful picture and there is enough room in the tech tree for all of them

I will see if I can find a model of an AC-47... If I can't, there may one of the existing plane models in the massive Rom/Quibling lot that (with permission) we can re-task to the purpose.
