Hello everyone!!!, maybe some of you remember me my activity on the forum but had to take a break because of RL.

anyways i just started getting into civ 4 again and what better way to start than playing my favorite mod!! :D

but unfortunately, whenever i try to play a game of C2C, the map loads but never gets past the "initializing" phase which causes the game to just stop working.

while being very upset, i looked up and found that there are issues concerning win7 when it comes to civ 4, could that be the problem??????

my windows is win7 x64 with 3gb ram and an intel core duo.

thanks in advance.

My Windows7 machine with 12GB RAM has zero problems with running C2C.

My old 32-bit XP machine with 2.5gig could only run non-custom games on small maps. I would expect Win7 would be an improvement over that, but I'm not really au fait with the technicalities.

A common problem people have is not being patched to the latest (3.19) BtS, so that's all I can suggest.

Installing Civ4 onto a Win7 machine
*Note You can skip the BTS 3.17 patch and go straight to the 3.19 patch.

Installing Civ4 Complete onto a Win7 machine

Also remember to designate Civ4/BTS exe and/or the shortcut to directly call C2C to 'run as administrator'

If you need to uninstall and retry you might want to follow these instructions.

ok thanks all, but is there a way that doesn't involve uninstalling? because i'm really lazy and don't really want to install it all again :p :crazyeye: but thanks anyway!!!

At the risk of stating the obvious, you only need to reinstall if there is something wrong with your install... But are you patched to 3.19 or not? If not you can certainly do that without reinstalling.

Oh and how much memory does your graphics card have (there are problems with old ones)?

@Taxman: Should 3GB be enough to run say a Large map and Custom Game of C2C on 64-bit Windows7?

You only need the 3GB switch for 32 bit operating systems... typically Win XP.

Also map initialization for C2C can take a long time (5-15 minutes even) depending on the map size, type and the machine specs.

well I am fully patched to 3.19 so there's nothing wrong there...

as for the memory it states I have approximately 2.3 gb

it really is odd considering that on a vista 32 c2c ran perfectly, it just when I started using win 7 things got messy.

then could win 7 be the problem??? :badcomp:

Try a Play Now game and see if it loads. then try a custom game and see if it loads. i accidently clicked the largest map size fpr Planet Generator and it took me 30 minutes to generate and 10 mins to load a save. this was a while back.

nope still the same problem....

@DancingHoskuld: i did that my self, who acually uses the installer?? :crazyeye:

I am still convinced the problem is in win 7 64 beacuse like i said i ran giagantic maps with vista 32 without any issues :undecide:

guess i shouldn't change computers that often...

I am using win 7 64 bit and have been for awhile no problems. However I do have 4gb ram.

interesting, from what you say the RAM seems to make the difference, but i can't really do something about that anytime soon...

No, infact it is NOT the Win 7, infact Win 7 is the BEST Windows since Microsoft has made PC's. IMPO
And DH was correct, 2.3 memory is waaaay to small to use C2C, sorry.

You have to have a minimum of 4 Gb then do a 3 Gb switch also.

I would guess that win7 is eating up a higher % of your limited RAM than when you had Vista. The remaining amount is probably not enough for c2c. Getting a little bit more shouldn't be that expensive.

the game is 32 bit and cannot address any above 2GB, and with patch not above 2.9 GB (even on Win7/64), independent what RAM you have. The break is the vRam, it needs to be minimum 2GB for a bigger map.
The game does not empty the ram, so you need to save and reload often, otherwise it slows down or freezes.

IF you have a 32 bit one:(, then maybe, but x64 can handle it quite nicely.

True, but the OS is also trying to do stuff so if you have a 64 bit system the extra memory can be used by the OS and it does not need to try and use the bit that civ is using.

A big BINGO there.
