This thread is not about the language civic but rather about translating c2c into different languages. I know currently c2c is only accurately translated into English so I was wondering if any body would like to translate it. If nobody wants to I will do it if you tell me how. Thanks;)

The XML files in Assets/XML/Text contain the text to be translated. They are pretty self-explanatory. There might be some text in there that is no more used in the game. If any text is missing from there, tell me so I can check and expose it.

Translating the mod is a pretty much hopeless task. Every time we add new stuff, we are not concerned about any of the text except for english, and so often times the other languages will have completely unrelated entries. We add so much stuff it would be hard for anyone to really keep up on it all.

As far as I know currently you can't play C2C in a language other than English, the main Civ menu is blank if you try.

One suggestion we have had to fix that problem is to ensure that every text entry has all the language tags in it even if they each have the English text.

We get many offers to do the translation into C2C but very few follow through. It is a big task. It is a pity that many do some translation but don't post it so their work is lost. :(

Not sure how it happened but it seems, that this is working fine now (at least it did so a few weeks ago, when I tested C2C in German)!

That is the main issue for other languages currently. Even it there are the tags then they often are empty and so you have a lot of non-existing entries for units, buildings etc. in your language. Of course you can´t play the game if you don´t know what you are choosing. This could be solved if all the language tags would be filled at least with the english text.
But I agree that this would be a huge task, having done translations to German for RoM before. I still would be interested in doing german translations as this is really a fantastic mod and would be even better when played in the native language. Unfortunately I simply don´t have the time at the moment. While doing so I would also fill out those other language tags that only contain a '.' with the non-english text. If GuiseppeIII wants to help out here it would be more than appreciated!

From what I understand, it's all about whether that language is represented in every possible text file. If you've done a Polish language conversion under french tags, I'd invite you to offer your ability to translate to polish for the entire mod. It would be easily enough done to add <Polish>blah blah blah</Polish> to all text info files. It may require that you also mod the original civ text documents and have us start including them in our text files if you're adding a new language tag entirely. But I think for anyone who knows another language, translation projects are currently a job left largely unaddressed and should be pretty easy from a modding perspective (though it would be quite a task from a volume of work perspective!) Keeping up with changes from English only modders could be a bit of a challenge as well. Nevertheless, I don't think any of us would want to deter someone from helping us in this manner.

I tried do this on <Polish> tags, but civ4 with polish language is on <french> tags. I'll try to rewrite our polish language from BTS to polish tags and if it works we can add polish tags to c2c:)

I started on translating stuff to German as well a while ago. But I lack the time (and nerve) to do it all. It´s especially bad with units. By the time I translated 5 ( which sometimes includes wikipedia search to know what the original text was talking about in the first place, since many historic units contain words not used that often) another 7 or 8 new units came with svn updates...

maybe if we organize ourselves and split the work we can do it. Like one person onyl doing units, one just buildings and so on.

The most important thing is to commit or post the parts already translated now and then so the work does not get lost but instead more and more text files have translations on the SVN.

If you just make copies of the original BtS txt files and include them in our mod, then add the polish tags to them as well, it should work. But keep in mind that there are also Warlords and Vanilla txt files in use too that would need the same treatment. Basically, if something is in OUR text file already, its already overwriting what's displayed on the BtS txt document of the same name. BtS overwrites whatever is on Warlords. And Warlords overwrites whatever is on Vanilla. So if a text file ONLY exists in Vanilla, it could still be used in C2C references and would need the new language tags. Its safe enough to copy it and move it to C2C.

Does this make any sense? I'm about 85% confident on these statements as well so if any other modders believe I'm mis-stating this, please speak up!

Sorry for not being true to my word about sharingwhat i did so far. But most of the stuff I did was in modules moved to the core since i last worked on them, so I have to find them again.
