C3C Multiplayer - Can't join or host, crashes

Hoping someone can help me here...

Running a p3 800 with 98se at my friend's house. Installed Civ3 and C3C and the game plays fine. Trying multiplayer doesn't work, though. I can get to the lobby, but can't see the game he creates. If I click on Host, it immediately crashes. If I try to Direct IP connect to him, as soon as I enter the IP and click the little circle, it crashes.

I'm perplexed and annoyed. Anyone know what's wrong here?

what version of civ do you have? Are you behind a firewall? If so, have you opened the needed ports?

Using C3C 1.22 on both systems. We're trying to play on a LAN, not over the Internet, so ports aren't an issue. Besides, it crashes the second I hit the host button in the lobby... It doesn't even gimme a chance to have trouble with a firewall...

iyou should try reinstalling c3c. Does it do that on both systems?

It only does it on the 98se system... I've uninstalled Conquests and reinstalled... Uninstalled Conquests and Civ3 and reinstalled... And formatted, reinstalled 98se, reinstalled Civ3 and C3C with the same results...

make sure the 98se has all updated drivers for video card and all that good stuff. make sure you have the latest directX(9.0c i believe) then see if it works
