C3C PBEM : Grognards - Napoleonic scenario-based PBEM

They are not expensive enough to justify their enhanced stats. Combat probability ratio is more than the shields ratio. But never mind, it is OK even as it is.

The summer of 1812 was very hot in Europe. It was so hot, Austrian Emperor became somewhat crazy and launched a suicidal attacks on the British troops all over the frontlines in the vicinity or Berlin and Leipzig. It is hard to tell exactly 100%, but seems that Britain will be able to finally win this game during the next turn by Domination.

There were many great battles:

Scouts of glorious Imperial Hussars discovered the hiding place of British armies which devastated Berlin. Two Household Cavalry armies were then butchered with shining sabers of Hussar armies. Another Hussar army slaughtered two Household Cavalries in the streets of Leipzing. Remaining cavalries were decimated by Hussars and Leipzig was recaptured losing one Hussar in the process. Then, 4 Lifeguards had to throw themselves under the hooves of another Hussar army and veteran Hussar detachments. Then, fifth and final Hussar army eliminated the third British cavalry army. Austrian artillery bombarded assorted frontline troops and another Hussar batallion was lost in the Alps near Turin while trying to kill a Lifeguard. Alas, there is little possibility to save Marseilles which will be probably lost next turn thus giving Britain Domination win. But you never know...

I knew I should have gone after your Armies first...

Bombarded and then Killed 2 Austrian Armies + 1 Hussar near Berlin
Bombarded and then Killed 2 Austrian Armies + 2 Hussar + 2 Fusliers in Liepzig. Recaptured city and 1 cannon.
Killed 3 Hussars and 1 Army outside of Liepzig
Killed 7 Fusaliers and 1 Hussar at Marseilles, captured city and 2 cannon.
Lost 3 Household Cavalry overall.

This put me at 40% land (finally) and also over the 60 K limit (61,500), but the game won't end until after the Austrian turn perhaps???

Seems that Austrian attack was indeed suicidal and all armies have been slaughtered. But it was expected. At least they gave the British some trouble. :)

When I get the game, I'll post all screenies here if it ends.

That would be the first Napoleonic game actually played to the end!

Turn September 1812 had been played and sent to London. The game did not end however. Might be it will end when the new turn will start. Or might be it is corrupt. Don't know. But I got no victory screenies to post for Britain.

Since I was pretty sure it had been the last turn, it was rather messy. Austrian troops lost 7 (!!) Hussars attacking a redlined Lifeguard near Berlin and about 10 other Hussars attacking other British troops. No cities were possible to recapture and the game seems to be over.

Well, should we go ahead and consider the game over? Because this sucker isn't ending:

I would have to replay my turn as I just opened it up and flipped through production and hit end turn (after the two screenshots) to see if it would end. It didn't.

Yes, I think we can consider it over. If only, as Akots put it, to see the first real ending of a Napoleonic PBEM (which surprises me as these are quite short and full of action...). After all this one took more than a year to complete.

Congrats to Rubberjello for his well-earnt and decisive victory (both VPs and domination) !
Congrats to myself for having been eliminated not once but TWICE in this PBEM ! ;)

Actually Britain wins the game both by Victory points and by Domination.

We can just declare it over and be done with it. ?? IMHO, Let's do it.

I tried to open it with CivAssist and Mapstat and both utilities say that the save is corrupt. It seems that it was corrupt already the turn before France was eliminated.

Wow! I'm glad we were able to "finish" then, with a corrupt save and all.
Thanks to all for a good game. Nations fell. Allegiances shifted. Mayhem ensued. Despots were overthrown. And, of course, the good guys won! ;)

@RJ: Since you are the winner, please, can you try to post the summary for lurkers and we can then shortly discuss the game. Some screenshots (with your army, for example) won't hurt as well. I'll then try to get mine from the last save.

I've just tried to count how many players total we had in this game... Ain't an easy task. From the starting squad, it seems only the two of us (RJ and me) survived to the end.

And major Kudos to Loulong for taking over Steph! And fighting to the last man! Both for Spain and Russia! The spirit is there which is the most important!!

Since the game started a year ago, my recollections are pretty fuzzy about what happened. I remember lobbying very hard with the Spanish(Loulong) to *NOT* join with the French against the British (something they tend to do alot in the PBEMs I've seen.) I bribed him by gifting a Portuguese city every 3-4 turns. That may have been a little extreme, but it really helped in the long run.
France originally started off strong against my Italian cities. They would have fallen, except I gifted Milan to Austria the turn before it was going to fall. The French backed off in confusion, and by the time they had moved their forces North to attack Amsterdam, it was near impregnable with 10+ Cannon, 10+ Redcoats, and 7-8 Cavs. The two original French armies met their demise there. Meanwhile, a victory with a Man o'War on turn 3 or 4 started my Golden Age. I had a few more naval battles and soon had unquestioned Sea superiority, with the Academy cranking out Frigates every 5 turns.
Amsterdam continued to be a huge loss area for the French as they changed rulers once or twice. Eventually they joined the war against the Prussians that the Russians (and Austrians?) were tearing apart. Then the long-awaited invasion from England began, with simultaneous landings at Caen and Brest, and the forces of Amsterdam sallying forth. I had 2 Cav armies by then, and mainland France fell pretty quickly, especially when Austria attacked them from the South and East. (Special thanks to Dogboy, and before him, Ceasarian for jumping in and playing a dying France.)

It was after France had fallen that Spain bushwhacked my poor Gibralter garrison and took it, thus enraging the Brits to no end! Spain, Russia, and the remnants of Scandinavian France teamed up against Britain and Austria, with the Ottomans pottering in the background somewhere (I forgot what they were doing...) I was really leary against having to fight a two front war, but it worked out alright as I initially played defense against the Spanish hordes in Southern France, while capturing some former Prussian cities from Russia, and then heading on into Scandinavia to eliminate France.

Then it was an incredibly long, hard slog through the Pyrenees into Spain against hordes and hordes of Spanish Conscripts. Spain finally fell (what a defence, Loulong!) about the the same time Russia was finally crumbling under the combined onslaught of Austria and the Turks (although they seemed to have much greater success in halting the Turks than the Austrians, did they have more of their army down there?). Then Sweden was finally eliminated by the Brits while Russia fell, leaving the Brits just short of a Domination victory until the final war was declared.

Very little on the Tech front this game. After getting Nationalism, Advanced Tactics, and Artillery Tactics, I shut research completely off. Code Civil, Espionage, Seapower, and Medicine were not ever researched by anyone, I believe.

Here is my Army list. It got reduced a fair bit in the last few turns! I still have two armies left (1 is an all-elite Lifeguard Army at 18 HP that would cause nightmares for some opponents...) only about 25 of those Redcoats are conscripts, by the way. I conscripted very lightly this game. I also have about 35+ captured Batteries, and about 12+ captured ships turned Man o' War.

The area around Berlin:

Thanks to all for pitching in and completing this one! BTW...I really enjoyed playing this one with AP turned off. Having tons of half-priced units charging around everywhere spoils the flavor and balance somewhat, IMO.
