C3Comp: "Original disc could not be found or authenticated."

I installed C3Comp, everything went fine in the installation and when I went to play the game, I get this error message: Original disc could not be found or authenticated.

I called installed the two patches on the 2KGames website. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and even returned the game to Target and got a new copy. Still the same problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?

btw: I'm running a Dell laptop with WinXP...
 
Complete comes fully patched, so you don't need to patch it. That's why you got that error message.

I would try purging Civ3 completly from your hard drive. Instructions for this can be found here. Also make sure that the 1.22 patch doesn't show up in your Add/Remove program list. Once you've gotten it completely off your system, try reinstalling it.

The patches have seperate entries in the Add/Remove program list. I suspect that this is your problem. You could try making sure that everything is gone from your Add/Remove program list and reinstall before messing with the registry. Depends on how comfortable you are in messing with the registry...

Thanks for the info. When I first installed the program, I got the error message and called tech support. They told me to install the patch. Still having the problem, even with a new set of discs. I'll try to uninstall everything and start all over again.

They told you to patch complete? That's weird, they should know better.
