Call for Civ2 Mac Downloads Section

Dear CivFanatics,

I've been talking with Henrik - as a fellow Mac Civ2 Scenario convertor - and we both agree that CivFanatics would be an even better place :) if it had a permanent Civ2 Mac Downloads Section.

I think between us we have nearly every scenario converted, and feel it would be most wonderful to have a place to post these.

Whaddya say ?

best wishes

Frunobulax

P.S. please, no tedious replies and/or circular arguments along the lines of "PCs are better/faster than Macs" or vice versa OK !

This is the main reason I abandoned the Apolyton Forums and came to CivFanatics permanently :king:

Despite the fact that I've got a PC and can't stand Macs, I think that that's an excelent idea :goodjob:

BTW, what name did you post under on Apolyton?

Yup, we have all the scenarios allready, all we need is somewhere to upload them (I might have to organize them a little better than they are in my scenarios folder first though ;))

Oh and I've never felt that the apolyton forums where hostile towards mac users  atleast not the sleague forum or the spanish civ 2 forum...

Oh and we should probably create some sort of document or guide about how to convert scenarios as well (so that not too many will have to fall into the game.txt quit dialouge crash trap, or the bmp crash trap, etc, etc)... ;)
That is, in case there are any other civ 2 mac users out there... ;)

Me too !

Oh and I've never felt that the apolyton forums where hostile towards mac users, at least not the league forum or the spanish civ 2 forum...

Well, it was just one individual on one thread that got me so p***ed off a year or so back, so I just had enough, plus I guess I started with CivFanatics  and that's where my heart is ! I rarely go to Apolyton these days... can't remember when I last did in fact... I've got nothing against them collectively though, and have got some good hints/help there in the past !

Yep - that game.txt quit dialogue's the worst one !

Anything that can improve the site is good... :)

I support the idea but don't think I'll have the time to update a new download section. If frunobulax and Henrik are willing to update the Mac download pages, then we can start immediately.

Count me in !

I'd be able to start from Sunday night (Apr 7th) as I'm actually away from home at the moment (using G3 laptop on friends modem).

But great news ! :D

thanks

Great! I'll send u the page template and the details tonight so you can add new files to the page easily. You don't need to worry about page design and other stuff since we will use the same design as other Civ2 download pages. :) You can edit the page with any HTML editor such as Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Frontpage Express, even Netscape's Composer.

I can open the Mac downloads section this weekend. Do we need to divide the Mac downloads into several categories or is one page enough (putting all the downloads on one page)?

Great - I have Dreamweaver :D Send template to my private email address etc ! Can't wait !

Might be an idea to have separate sections, as we'll probably have a lot of scenarios eventually, though it'll take a while to get this built-up -
I'd suggest we break it down into...

  • Ancient: Up to 470 AD
  • Medieval: 470 AD - 1492 AD
  • Renaissance: 1492 AD - 1700 AD
  • Industrial: 1700 AD - 1900 AD
  • Modern: 1900 AD - Present
  • Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Other

cheers
