Reviews about this one are mixed, but I've played it through (no spoilers):

  • The gameplay is fantastic at times and it gets better and better as you go on.
  • The horseback gunfights are as good as it gets for gaming with friends around. It's like watching a movie at times and plenty of laughing out loud.
  • The puzzles aren't too shabby.
  • Graphics are state of the art.
  • Music and sounds are excellent. The music does what it should, it creates a sense of urgency and rushes you.
  • Some of the maps are huge and there are no loading breaks - the engine has great potential, it looks like a film star and moves like an athlete.
  • Script and story are great. Not inferior to anything from Hollywood. The preacher character is well-written and reminds me of Mobboss for some reason. Actually I'm pretty sure it is him!
  • The ending is pure class and very original.

Now the bad stuff:

  • Loading could be shorter but it didn't bother me.
  • The start is extremely frustrating and the game takes an hour to warm up, during which time you will be swearing like a lumberjack at Techland, especially during the early sneaking parts. Trust me, it gets a LOT better after the first couple of chapters.
  • It's supposed to be need a good PC, but I found it ran perfectly on mine. But I have a new one with 3.4 GHz Dual core, a 6800 Ultra and 2 GB ram. If your machine isn't much different from mine it should be OK.

I haven't checked out the multiplayer yet, but as a single player game I liked it very much.

Yeeehaaaa

Link?

EDIT: How can you have played it through? It's not being released until December 5th... unless the demo is long. (I have not checked out the demo yet, tomorrow night).

Well, I've enjoyed the single player demo greatly. They are still a little linear, but there is some replay value. Don't know about the multi, but if the multi is bad than that will suck.

I hope they make a second one, and learn from any mistakes in this one. I found the voice acting to be superb. And it ran just fine on high settings with my 7800 GT, 1 gig of ram, 2.2ghz CPU.

No link, I wrote it myself!

I agree it's extremely linear, some reviewers said it was a bit like a 'more focussed oblivion'. They're talking rubbish! There's almost always only one route to take.

I can understand why people don't like it, especially the excrutiating first hour and the lack of variety of weapons. But it must of hit me on a good day. It's sufficiently different from the average game to stand out. You just have to give it a chance.

The sneaking wasn't that hard. I played around with breaking stuff in his house, even threw a chair at the farmer! The horses are well done too though I think the levels should be longer (I only have the demo though). Multiplayer isn't bad at all. It's rather fun actualy. I will buy this game, but not for more than $20.

I hate the sneaking parts but the Preacher parts are brilliant.
