Campaign???

This is going to be something each modder will have to do Tom. Do you think you can write up a tutorial for doing the graphic work ( just explaining how to change or enter the names for the campaigns?) For just put in what you want, it wont matter I have a small scenario I will use for testing purposes. The name you put on the camprecBQ.pcx has nothing to do with the actual scenario name.I will explain this to you indetail latter.

Well, I am just using Photoshop to enter the Text, I have the text aligned where the original text was. I do not have PSP, so I don't know which file formats PSP uses that supports layers (which would allow others to simply click on the text box that is preplaced and write whatever they wish), as well as paste a new graphic in... and be done.

A quick google check shows PSP 5,6,7 file formats are (.PSP, .JSL, .PFR, .TUB)... there is a plugin for Photoshop which allows Photoshop to open/save these. I will see if the .PSP (or one of the others) allows layers, so anyone can make quick changes.

I will post both up probably later tonight if I can.

PSP handles all regular file formats such as PCX, JPG, JPEG, GIF, GIFF, TIF, etc etc
You can do animation with PSP Animation shop also. So for those who know how to handle layers, there should be no problem..

OK, send it to me when you finish and I'll test in program. Have a good one. BTW, I got the flu. Been runnin' a little slow last couple days.

Here is what I have come up with so far... the black area which hides the original campaign text is a bit more textured and nice... the text is not noticable (unless you look really hard). Do you think the whole bottom portion should be an image box?, just one side? Or else I can leave it as is and users can add their own if they choose.

I was going to extend the black box down and have it form into an image holding area, with perhaps space on the left (as you had Guardian) for a Title. Title can be changed on the top though also by modifying the labels.txt.

The Photoshop plugin only allows limited layers to be saved from Photoshop format to PSP format, so I will probably just have the Text Boxes included in the final image which can be changed to whatever name you want.

I like it Tom, looks good. Looks like there is plenty of room for modders to add their personal touches if they want to but the design is good enough to stand on its also. Yup, I like it. Now we just need a tutorial to tell them how to use it. Can you PM this to me?

Guardian, any luck with the CampRedBG.pcx? It is strange that the NEXT button disappeared on you... try putting the original PCX back in and see if it still does that. I PM'd you, and when I tested several different things, the NEXT button always stayed there. I tried:
1. Deleting the NEXT text in the labels.txt
2. Changing the name of the campaign BIQ's (that just kicked me back to the Main Menu screen when I clicked NEXT.

I know you said you got the flu, hope it's not too bad... and leaves soon.

Problem is my computer Tom. Can't figure it out yet. I may have to reinstall Civ. Not a prolem tho cuz I have complete backup on another drive. As soon as I get things sorted out I'll let you know.

Hi Tom,
Well I'm still sick, but I'm hanging in there. Reloaded everything. Put in the camprec file and guess what, it works. I also installed photoshop. Now we can work on the same page. I figured it would make it easier for you to explain what I need to do if we work with the same software. So, how do I change the text on the campaign list.on the camprecBQ pic?

In Photoshop, you need the Layers Window open... you can open it by hitting F7; or by going to Windows -> Layers.

CampRecBG1.jpg

You will see the Layers of the image shown in the Layers Window. It includes Background, and 1 layer for each Text Box (Campaign 1 through 9).

To change the text for Campaign 1, click the Layer box labeled Campaign 1.

CampRecBG2.jpg

Then in the tools window (can access this by clicking Windows -> Tools), click the Text box (Horizontal Type Tool).

CampRecBG3.jpg

Click on the Campaign 1 text in the image, and you can just retype whatever you want.

CampRecBG4.jpg

The text in the Layer Window (Campaign 1) will be changed to the next text I typed in once done (in this case New Text!!!!)
Save and you are done! Do same thing for each Text you wish to change.

In a PSD or RGB image, whenever you paste another image into a pre-existing image, it will put it into a new Layer. Layer options are found under the Layers menu.

Thanks Tom, I am going to play with this for a while ands see how it works in game. Still have the flu and its really draining me. I have two other major projects I'm working on but I really want to get this finished. Will get back to you as soon as I can.
