Can´t play CIV4, reboots while loading

Today I went to store from where I bought the game and returned it and get new one.
Well, I uninstalled CIV4 and other files, like MyGames etc. Then I rebooted the PC and after that, I installed the game again with patch 1.52. Then again I rebooted PC and then I tried to load the game...
Result: "Init MP/Voice" and blackout and machine rebooted... Perkele!... :goodjob:

So I´m still hoping that someone could help me with this problem...

First, disable rebooting on BSOD, so that you can get a crash dump or at least BSOD identifying the driver. You could also check if CivIV crashes first, in which case you will get an Application Log entry listing the module name and address. If this is the case, you can also get a dump from CivIV by setting "GenerateCrashDumps = 1" in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\CivilizationIV.ini.

You could try disabling sound to check if the problem is in that part of the setup ("AudioEnable = 0"). And ofcourse you could try updating your audio driver as well (you got 1.29 when the latest is 1.30).

Without the exact details of what is crashing and where it's impossible for anyone to tell you what the problem is, unless there is a solid precedent with similar symptoms. However, only the coders at Firaxis will be able to tell you even with the detailed information, so you should send it to them.

The more detailed information you are able to provide, with a list of steps you have already taken (preferably in reference to the standard solutions), the more likely the 1st tier support is to escalate the issue and bring it to the attention of guys who can actually do something about it in offering a workaround or fixing bugs/making workarounds in code.

If you report the problem to 2K Games support (usa@take2support.com), send them what they request and more:

Thanks, Akhenaton

OK, let´s see...

- I disabled rebooting updated audio driver and loaded the game -> "Init MP/Voice" and blackout and then blue screen with text, incl. :

***stop: 0x0000008e (0xc000001d, 0xa7bd737c, 0xf7c7ee84, 0x00000000)

- then I checked CIV4.ini-file -> nothing
- I made audio enabled=0 and again tried to load the game -> "Init MP/Voice" and blackout and then blue screen with text, incl. :

***stop: 0x0000007f (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

- then I checked CIV4.ini-file -> nothing
- today (02.02) I tried 2 times load the game, and now I noticed top of the blue screen also some info...

1#

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL

0x000000d1 (0xc4794d71, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xa80673b3)

2#

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL

0x000000d1 (0x2867a70f, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xa810f3c1)

I`ll also send a report to 2K Games support, so let`s see from where I`ll get the 1st reply, that includes the fix... :D :D

What do you mean "nothing"?

Did you check the Application Log and System Log for the filename of the crashing driver?

There isn't any errors at Application Log and System Log. I did empty those logs and before that I installed also Catalyst 6.2. So I'm 100% sure that there ain't errorlogs.
Then I tried to load the game... But this time I did found some errors from

/My Games/Sid Meyer's Civilization IV/Logs/init.log , but I'm not sure what's the info they give...

Take2Support has helped me a lot. This fix ended the rebooting:

Change compatibility mode
1. Right click on the game icon
2. Click properties
3. Select the compatibilty tab
4. Tick the box that says "Run this program in compatibilty for:"
5. In the drop down box click on Windows 2000
6. Click apply
7.Play the game

But, when I try to load the game, I had new errormessage:

Cannot locate the DVD-ROM
"Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application"

Take2Support told me to install patch 1.52, and I did reinstall it, because I already had that patch... No help...

Can't wait for the next fix...

It finally works! I carried my PC to techsupport of the manufacturer and they fixed it.
And all because I had some program called SoundMan in my PC. That program disabled my soundcard´s own program...
They deleted whole program and updated drivers for Realtek-soundcard and voila!
