Hello fellow civ fanatics:

I have built an army with Elite ancient cavalry and I am wondering if that was such a good idea. If only an elite unit can produce a military leader can an army with elite units produce another military leader?

Would I have been better off just using veteran units in the army and leaving my elite units solo in hopes of creating another leader?

I guess another way to ask the question is: Has anybody produced a military leader from a standing army?

An elite within an army can't produce a leader. So you should probably keep your elites solo, except of course for the one that produced your leader in the first place. You should place him in the army.

armies cant produce leaders.
and bout elite/vet in the army, many people says vets (they can become elite when loaded but elite cant produce leaders), and they are right. but i still load some armies with elites (its +25% hp)
edit: too late

Once you buiild the Hero Epic and the Military Academy it realy does not matter what you do with your elites. I stack all my armies with elites

An Elite in an army actually can produce leaders. I've seen it happen in the Japaneese Conquest.
